I enjoy Japanese fiction and Murakami is one of my favorites. This is a great book. I was surprised when I began reading it, because nowhere does it say that this is a sequel to "A Wild Sheep Chase". Well, it is. I think you could read it on its own, but there are several references that you wouldn't get unless you read Sheep Chase (which I have).
