Hilarious book relating "live" the remodeling of a house, from the search for the ideal architect to the (faulty) installation of the last light switch. The book is dedicated to "anyone who has looked at a load bearing wall and thought "This room would sure look a lot better without that".
This is by the author of the delightful book about pug dogs, "Clara." It is the true, blow-by-blow story of how she and her husband found an architect and contractors to remodel their home near the beach in a sleazy, but fascinating neighborhood of Los Angeles. At least one laugh on every page, but the average must be more like five. Almost every observation Kaufman makes on life comes out funny. I was sorely tempted to keep this book for myself, but it deserves to be read by more people, and I need more space on my real-life bookshelves!
