I really enjoyed this story. Reading the reviews on some of the other listings of this book, people didn't seem to like (and were confused by) the large # of characters that were introduced. I did not find this at all. Yes, there are a lot of characters, but not more than most suspense novels. In fact, the author takes care to get you 'inside the head' of each of these characters and they are so well developed that I didn't have any problem at all keeping them straight. The twists in the book are juicy and unpredictable, and it has a very satisfying ending.
Having not read much by Mary Higgins Clark, I must say that I really enjoyed this one. Quick-paced, interesting story. Murder, fraud, intrigue with a touch of romance thrown in. Great summer read!
Daddy's Gone A Hunting is one of Mary Higgins Clark's best books yet. Once I started reading it, I could hardly put it down until it was finished!
I'm a fan of MHC and read all her books. This one was a fast read, a good mystery with a surprise ending, which I guessed about three quarters into the book. Entertainment at it's best.
I have been reading Mary Higgins Clark since I was in high school (class of '68!) and she rarely fails to delight. Daddy's Gone A Hunting is a suspenseful story of the Connelly family and their legacy as purveyors of fine reproductions of antique furniture. The business is failing, when a fire is set and destroys the complex. Douglas Connelly wants the 20 million dollar insurance payout, however, his daughter Kate and former employee Gus Schmidt are suspected of deliberately setting the fire. Two murders are unearthed, and they may be tied into the family business. A truly surprise ending nicely wraps up this mystery.
I read DADDY'S GONE A HUNTING for the June 2015 "Father" theme in my online book club, The Reading Cove.
This was standard Mary Higgins Clark fare and I can't say much about the story without spoilers, but I found it largely predictable save for one twist in the end.
I would definitely have to recommend WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN? and ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE by MHC over this one. C+

Lots to keep you entertained
This book was good---not excellent, but good.
Really a good read. Keeps you on the edge of your seat til the end. First book I read by this author but will definitely be getting more!
