I have been a fan of Jim Gaffigan for many years and will always think that he is a wonderful comedian. His book is quite funny, yet I do not have children. Those who do have children will no doubt appreciate it that much more. I had the privilege of seeing his stand-up show many years ago and my stomach muscles hurt for days from laughing. This book was very enjoyable and still easy to relate to, whether or not your are a parent. Anyone should welcome the opportunity to laugh. Jim Gaffigan certainly makes it possible!

Comedian Jim Gaffigan riffs on fatherhood, living in NYC, and fatherhood in NYC. As a fan of Jim Gaffigan, I really liked this book, but I think most anyone (especially anyone living with children) would enjoy this book. Short, funny chapters make this a fast paced read.
Gaffigan tells of his life living in a small 2 bedroom apartment in NYC, where he and his wife are raising 5 children. His love and wonder of parenting the 5 little ones really comes through in this hilarious autobiography. Parenting is most definitely nerve racking, amusing, chaotic, and joyous; and if you're a parent, you will relate to much of Gaffigan's experiences.
If the book can be summarized in one of Gaffigan's own quotes, it is that "Toddlers love to tell you secrets, especially when you are wearing a white shirt and they've been eating chocolate." :-D

I adored this book. It was heartfelt, honest, and truly funny. If you're a fan of http://www.paperbackswap.com/8-Simple-Rules-W-Bruce-Cameron/book/0761126333/ or http://www.paperbackswap.com/Fatherhood-Bill-Cosby/book/0385234104/ then you will love this book. I enjoyed every moment of it, and it's more than clear the love he has for his children and wife. I have been a fan of his comedy for a while, but I'm an even bigger fan after the book.
We have been watching Jim's comedy routines about food, family, bacon, living in New York City, travel, food, etc. His delivery is honest and clean and his love for his wife and kids is in almost every sketch (chapter). The book is a collection of his comedy routines, assembled by his wife (who writes most of the material he uses) for a specific reason. Prior to publication they lived in a 2 bedroom apartment in New York City with 5 children and needed more space. Having found an apartment and able to juggle finances to meet the monthly payments but not the down payment his wife looked at Jim and said âYou need to write a bookâ for added income. When he asked the family for a good title 7 year old Patrick wrote on a scrap of paper Dad Is Fat and that stuck. It's a quick humor read. I really laughed at the chapter â How to put five kids to bed in a two bedroom apartmentâ--complete with diagrams!
Very funny book, but too much profanity for me. Parents and parents-to-be can learn a lot from this book.
