FBI agent Nora English has a very rough beginning. At an early age, her mother introducted her to a life of crime and terrorism. In order to save her younger sister, Quin, from the same fate, she became an FBI informant and ultimately had her mother arrested and gained custody of Quin. Thus started an FBI career for her and got Quin's life on track. They are drawn together - along with Duke Rogan - by an arson investigation. Sinister things in Nora's past - related to the arsonist - crop up unexpectedly and Nora, Quin and Duke join forces to figure out what the hell is going on.
Another very intriguing and suspenseful mystery from Allison Brennan. She has yet to disappoint. She creates wonderful characters - both the good guys and the evil monsters. I especially liked Nora's flawed character. She has real issues, real emotions and real man troubles - just like everyone else. It made her seem more down to earth and likeable even with her many problems.

A little slow getting started, but ended up being a page turner.

I had this on my wish list but I really wanted to read it so I bought it, the first half of it I thought 'oh no, should've waited' but the second half it gets much much better and you finally start getting some details of the who and why, the what you already know. I finished this book in one day once it finally got to going and it is another one of her good books.
When a Bio-Tech firm goes up in flames, police believe it is another case of arson caused by an extremist group. FBI Special Agent Nora English has been hunting this group for nearly two years. But this fire is different. There is a body in the midst of the rubble. Security Specialist Duke Rogan wants to know who breeched his state-of-the-art security system at the Bio-Tech firm. He has helped the FBI in the past and is happy to lend a hand again, especially if he can work closely with Nora, a woman who turns him down each time he asks her out.
The final book in the FBI trilogy started out a little slow, then the story ramped up near the halfway point. I liked the story even though I figured out the killer's connection to Nora early in the book. I really liked Duke and his relationship with his younger brother, Sean. I also liked that he never gave up on Nora. But I had a hard time warming up to both Nora and her sister, Quin. Nora seemed so focused on the investigation that I don't think she even noticed Duke was with her most of the time. My rating: 4 Stars.

When she was eighteen years old, Nora English betrayed her deadly anarchist mom by turning her in to the FBI. She did it to save her younger sister Quin. Twenty years later mom still lingers behind bars psychotically outraged at her two ungrateful daughters especially the older one, who besides her treachery has become a FBI agent; her younger one is almost as evil becoming an arson investigator. To her glee, they are somewhat estranged.
Nora investigates arsons of the biotech industry by an apparent internal terrorist gang. This time they breach security expert Duke Rogan's computer system protecting a biotech company, but the inferno is different as the charred remains of a corpse are found. The autopsy reveals the starling revelation that the deceased actually bled to death. Norah and Duke realize something new and lethal has entered the equation, but what and who remains elusive as both investigate as a team.
Although having teammates working a dangerous inquiry fall in love is quite common as romantic suspense is hot, Allison Brennan adds a refreshing profound psychological look at the dependency of relationships and of a need to belong. Quin needed Nora back then and Nora needed to be needed by Quin back then. Thus Duke has quite a task to win Nora's heart. Fans will relish this terrific thriller as Nora realizes she is a prime target not because of her inquiry, but because of her lineage and begins to fear Quin is behind the assaults. CUTTING EDGE is a winner.

Frankly, I wasn't impressed with this book. I never bought into someone who had Nora's background not being more dysfunctional. Neither she nor Duke particularly caught my interest and though I haven't read a lot of Brennan's books, I've read enough that they feel like cookie-cutter stories to me. Harlan Coben she ain't.
This book was as good as the first two in the FBI series. It was hard to put down once I started. It has a good plot...a little different than usual and also some romance without getting too mushy. You know who the bad guy is but it doesn't take away the excitement of the book.
I love most of Brennan's books and this one was no exception. I wasn't sure in the beginning if I liked Nora too much, but by the second half of the book I was really into the story. Great book! Can't wait for the next series! Keep them coming!
The best book in the series by far. Once you start it you will not be able to put it down. I wish that she would continue the series as there are plenty of people that she could spin off.
Wonderful.
