Definitely a little better than the second book but it takes a while to get going. There are a couple of miscommunication ploys that I found particularly annoying but overall I am glad I read it.
Evalle is not the sharpest tool in the shed but she definitely has heart and kicks butt. You can't help but like her and want her protected. The gods / goddesses' manipulations are less in this book so I didn't have to develop my ever growing hate-on for them. (WARNING: SPOILER) The book also ends in a good note which is so nice to have the good guys come out on top mostly.
