one of Ludlum's best
This book was actually under Ludlum's pen name of Jonathan Ryder yet it still offers all the great suspense/thriller writing he's known for. This is the gripping story of Alex McAuliff, an American geologist hire by an international conglomerate to survey a remote region of jungle in the Jamaican interior. The details are so vague as to make him suspicious, but the pay is too high to refuse. As things develop, McAuliff finds himself in a trackless jungle, caught in a deadly struggle between the local population called the 'Halidan' and his duplicitous employers, trying to figure out whats up before it costs him his life.
Excellent mystery. A real page turner
Abridged - 4 cassettes, 6 hours

Good suspense novel from Ludlum, typical
Another good spy novel by Ludlum.
Pretty typical Ludlum with a mysterious twist
Gripping and fast moving. Ludlum is the real master.
Good mystery. Takes place in Jamaica.
First pulished in 1974 when Ludlum was using a different pen-name. ABSOLUTELY GREAT ESCAPIST FICTION!
Alex McAuliff, a brilliant geologist, can't refuse Julian Warfield's offer of a million just to perform a routine, though suspiciously secret, survey of Jamaica's jungle interior for a mammoth international combine. Alex steps into the very heart of danger when he uncovers a labyrinth of deadly intrigue lurking beneath the lush Caribbean surface.
From the back cover:
Alex McAuliff has received an offer he can't refuse: two million dollars for a geological survey of Jamaica's dark interior. All Dunstone, Limited, requires is his time, his expertise, and his absolute secrecy. No one--not even McAuliff's handpicked team--can know of Dunstone's involvement. But British Intelligence is aware of the deal and they've let Alex in on a secret of their own: the last survey team Dunstone dispatched to Jamaica vanished without a trace.
Now it's too late to turn back, Alex already knows about Dunstone...which means he knows too much. From the moment he lands in Jamaica, Alex is a marked man. But who wants him dead? Dunstone? A rival company? Or British Intelligence? Here in an island paradise where even a beautiful woman might be a spy, every move could be his last, and his only clue to survival is a single mysterious word: Halidon.

This was a good piece of writing by the author. So much mystery surrounds the history - the REAL history, if I may - of Africa.
All Ludlum novels keep you on the edge of your seat and this one is no different. It is a page turner.
Great author.
If you have read Robert Ludlum's books and haven't read this one, you have missed one of his greatest.
**Set in Jamaica, vintage, suspensful entertainment from Robert Ludlum.
