This book was actually under Ludlum's pen name of Jonathan Ryder yet it still offers all the great suspense/thriller writing he's known for. This is the gripping story of Alex McAuliff, an American geologist hire by an international conglomerate to survey a remote region of jungle in the Jamaican interior. The details are so vague as to make him suspicious, but the pay is too high to refuse. As things develop, McAuliff finds himself in a trackless jungle, caught in a deadly struggle between the local population called the 'Halidan' and his duplicitous employers, trying to figure out whats up before it costs him his life.

This was a good piece of writing by the author. So much mystery surrounds the history - the REAL history, if I may - of Africa.

First pulished in 1974 when Ludlum was using a different pen-name. ABSOLUTELY GREAT ESCAPIST FICTION!
