A cut above the average medieval whodunit.

Penman does a wonderful job (in all her books) of re-creating the time period and drawing the reader in. I didn't care for this one as much as her epics, but consider that I love and adore her epics and don't take this criticism too harshly. Good beach read.

Penman writes a good historical mystery that also helps the reader understand the intrigue and difficulties during that particular periood of history.

Once again, Sharron Kay Penman delivers a beautiful combination of adventure and mystery. Intelligent and descriptive, the Justin De Quincy trilogy makes you feel as if you, the reader, are there in medieval England. What is even more impressive to me, is that the third book is just as good as the first one. Satisfying and well worth the read.

Starts off slower than the first book in this series, and is almost disappointing. Then it gets better quickly.
