A wonderful medieval mystery series featuring one-eyed Owen Archer, a Welsh-born former soldier who is now a magistrate-spy and is married to an able herbalist.
I like this series. shows what it was like to live in that time and not be super rich. just a working spy with a wife and kids. a boss that you have learned to like,a job you have learned to like and you do well with. you have friends and respect of your peers and peers of your boss.
hope candace writes more of this character.

Owen Archer historical mystery series #8. While Lucy is recovering from a serious fall and the miscarriage of her and Owen's third child, the one-eyed archer and archbishop's spy is busy trying to keep William of Wykeham, current bishop of Winchester, from coming to harm. When a fire nearly destroys a property the bishop owns and a woman is found dead in the fire, the bishop takes it personally and wants Owen to investigate. He does, and finds the woman was strangled before the fire ever got to her. A solid entry in one of my favorite medieval mystery series, though I do hope Lucy gets to feeling better emotionallyâher continual depression was quite a drag at times.
