A great book with a different view of Middle East politics and history derived from the author's own experience as the son of an American diplomat who was posted to a number of Arab countries in the 1950's and 60's (tragically, his father was the American diplomat who approved the immigrant visa for Robert Kennedy assassin Sirhan Sirhan's family), and later as a student and reporter. His personal story complements the history and politics of the time without overwhelming personal details. A great book to read if you want a different viewpoint of post-WWII Middle East.
