NY Medical examiners Laurie Montgomery and Jack Stapleton return. Angela Dawson seems to have it all rebounding from a bankrupt medical practice to being founder and CEO of Angels Healthcare surgical specialty hospitals. Expecting to go public in two weeks, Dawson her business in a cash flow problem due to being forced to close the ORs in all three hospitals due to fatal infections.
Laurie picks up on a uptick of staph infected deaths only in Angel Healthcare hospitals. Jack is scheduled for a knee repair in the Angel Healthcare Orthopedic hospital and Laurie can't convince him of the danger. There is more danger than Laurie could ever dream about.
Another tightly written suspense thriller with good characterizations. Four stars.

Typical Robin Cook novel. An enjoyable read.
I didnt think I was going to like this book at first. It was slow going with lots of medical jargon. I will say, however, that the author made the medical terms easily understandable, so that was a plus. Once the story took off, however, I was eager to continue reading. Toward the end I couldnt put the book down. In essence, for me reading this story was like starting an old car on a cold winter day. You have to let it run a few minutes before you take off, then it gradually picks up speed until it is cruising along at 45 mph. And no matter how much you put the pedal to the metal you cant get it to go any faster. The ending of this book was like that, and I was turning those pages as fast as I could. Kudos to Robin Cook for a suspense thriller that even I enjoyed to the fullest.
After a rough climb to the top, doctor and businesswoman Angela Dawson appears to have it all: a start-up-Angels Healthcare-that's about to go public, and a controlling interest in three busy specialist hospitals in New York City as well as plans for others in Miami and Los Angeles. But then a surge of drug-resistant staph infections in all three hospitals devastates her carefully contructed world.......
A New York City medical examiners Laurie Montgomery and Jack Stapleton are naturally intrigued by the uptick in staph-related post-procedure deaths at the three hospitals. Aside from their own professional curiosity, there's a personal stake as well: They are newly married, and Jack is facing surgery to repair a torn ACL at Angels Orthopedic Hospital. Despite Jack's protests, Laurie can't help investigating-thus opening a Pandora's box of corporate intrigue that threatens not just her livelihood, but her life and Jack's as well.

I love Robin Cook's books and if you enjoy medical thrillers you will love it too.
Not one of the best Robin Cook books I've ever read, but still worth the read.
