The first few chapters were promising but I already had the inkling that it will take me a while to finish the book. I disliked the writing style. It just did not appeal to me. I continued reading, hoping something better will happen with the story. It did halfway through the book. I decided then that this type of fantasy is more suitable to youngsters i.e. high schoolers, and not adults who have had read more epic fantasy stories. The description of the action scenes I also found excessive and not necessary. Again, the descriptive fight scenes will probably appeal to youngsters.
I did not finish the book. It is only 40 more pages before I finish the first book but I just could not power through it. I had high hopes for this as the author is well known and is considered a classic fantasy author. I probably would have loved it if I have read it when I was a teenager.
