Not as good a read as his novels, but an interesting insight into crime reporting.

I am a huge fan of Michael Connelly's fictional novels. This was an interesting incite into the author behind Harry Bosch's character. That being said, I found it difficult to read. Not because the articles weren't interesting, but because there were many articles, each telling a different story. I found myself putting this book down and reading other books, and returning to this one afterwards.

As I said, Mr. Connelly is a wonderful writer, I love his work and am looking forward to his next fictional novel.

unfortunately, this is an unedited reprint of Connelly's newspaper columns about crime stories.
Boring, dull, no cohesiveness.

My expectations for this book exceeded it's delivery. Michael Connelly has created a believable, very human character in Harry Bosch, and I was expecting to read about the real Michael Connelly. However this book is a collection of newspaper stories that Mr. connelly apparently wrote during his career as a newspaper reporter.

Before Michael Connelly became a novelist, he was a crime reporter, covering the detectives who worked the homicide beat. In these vivid, heard-hitting pieces, Connelly leads the reader past the yellow police tape as he follows the investigations, the victims, their families and friends - and, of course, the killers - to tell the real stories of murder and its aftermath.

I didn't really care for this book. I guess I was expecting something more since I have read all Connelly's others.

Well written in simple easy to understand. No niceties here, plain sometimes crude and dirty language, but it comes with the police and the teritory. Easy to read

This is a non-fiction collection of newspaper stories written by a grade-A novelist when he was journalist for a variety of big city newspapers. These true crime stories are organized in a creative manner - from the viewpoint of the cops, from the viewpoint of the victims, from the viewpoint of the perpetrators. All display fine writing, with an ability to bring out a variety of sides to the event being reported.
