This one jumped back and forth too much which made it confusing and hard to follow. Not her best effort.

This cozy mystery series is like eating potato chips - light, addicting and fun. Needlework shop owner Betsy Devonshire and her friend and store manager Godwin du Lac are at a December needlework convention in Tennessee when a woman falls from the 9th floor railing to her death inside the hotel. Everyone thinks it's an accident except Jill Cross Larson, Betsy's cop friend, who starts to investigate. Fortunately for their efforts, the hotel has been snowed in so no one can leave. It turns out the dead woman has made several enemies, but which one did it?

These familiar characters have become like good friends, growing and developing with each book, and it's fun to visit with them. I'm really enjoying this series, and surprisingly even the needlecraft portions are very interesting even though I've never liked needlecraft before. The revelation in this one was a little anticlimactic, but still a good read.

I hadn't read any Monica Ferris in a while, and it was good to get back to her. I couldn't guess who did it. I am one of those people who always peeks at the end. Even doing that , I had to read everything to figure out how and why. It was fun.

Full review written on my blog http://www.atammcreation.blogspot.com

This is book number eight in this series, and in a departure from the norm, is written entirely in a "vacation" local, in other words not in the hometown of the charachters.

It is a wonderful building novel on the relationship, friendships and lives of those invloved in the story lines; Betsy, Goodwin, and Jill. As the book takes place at a needlecraft convention, these three are the only ones from the series that we really see in this book, but it is a fun departure, keeping the series fresh.

As always, a needlework pattern is included in the book, and this book happens to have a Crewel Pattern, which is not something that I have ever tried, but the pattern looks so neat. Just might have to give it a try.

A great cozy read in the eveing with a cup of tea, fuzzy blanket in front of the fire. Warm and enjoyable is how I would describe this book, in fact this whole series.

From Booklist
Murder is in the air everywhere--even at a needlework show. Betsy Devonshire, owner of the shop Crewel World, finds herself snowed in at the convention hotel in Nashville along with her policewoman friend, Jill, and employee, Godwin. When another shop owner, Belle Hammermill, falls over the railing, plummeting down nine stories into the middle of the atrium, even the most avid sewers look up from their tatting. Everyone, of course, assumes the fall to be an accident. However, as Betsy, Jill, and Godwin start talking to the show's attendees, they begin to learn that a selfish and devious Belle had plenty of enemies--and they are all in the hotel. Ferris' characterizations are top-notch, and the action moves along at a crisp pace. The ending, unfortunately, is something of a letdown, with hardly a twist, much less a turn. Still, with so many crafters out there, this has a built-in audience of those who like to mix their needlepoint with question marks. Ilene Cooper

I've really enjoyed this series.
It's clear in this book Ferris is working on expanding her writing style. In this book, she breaks up the prose by listing a specific time and then telling the story from one of several character's point of view.
Her characters continue to develop in this book, and it's interesting to have it set outside of their home town.

Series is really starting to evolve - doesn't drag you through past books to get caught up, becoming quite the stand alone cozy. Although easy to identify the killer, the lure of this cozy series are the characters.
