Well written and it took some adjustement to reading the entire story in first person, but it felt more comfortable the farther I got into the book. Not a cut and dried story like the Highland stories, but rather the first part of a story journaled by Mac and how she got caught up in this crazy Tuatha de' Danaan that she didn't even know existed. Contains a few sexually explicit scenes with V'lane, though no sex actaully takes place.

I read this book on a recommendation from Evie. She loves this series and is a fever-freak, she especially loves Jericho. So, when she told me you could download the book as a podcast for free, I was all over that! The podcast is on itunes or you can check out the podcast at www.darkfeverpodcast.com This book is the beginning to her fever series. While there is a lot of information pumped into the story, it was one that I really enjoyed. I was not distracted with the book written in first person, but sometimes it was too detailed. I have a feeling Ms. Moning wanted it that way. She wants her reader to be really connected to Mac. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Bloodfever. Faefever was just released, with the fourth in the series not coming out until 2009. I am not sure when the last book will be out. I wish that there was more tension between Barrons and Mac, although I understand that KMM couldn't put too much between them in the first book, and (***LITTLE SPOILER***) the fingernail painting was absolutely adorable and I will just have to settle for that and when Barrons saves her butt in the warehouse. DONE SPOILING So, If you want something different and adventurous, I think you'll be pleased with this book!

Awesome book. One of my faves! MacKayla is a Sidhe-seer but she doesn't know it, and when she goes to Ireland to try & find answers about her sisters murder, she comes to meet many different "others" she previously had no idea exsisted & her whole life changes. Not alot of "romance" in this one, which I liked. Much more about the story and mystery. Kept me up all night reading! 5 stars!

Even though I wanted to like this book, because I've like others by this author, I just couldn't get into it. It starts out cheezy and just head downhill from there.

The first-person narrative is weak and the character, Mac, feels very unpolished yet still manages to come off as annoying and immature. I hate to use the term "dumb blond", but here it fits. She's whiny, spoiled and easily unlikeable.

The storyline makes me think the author was a bit inspired by Laurell K. Hamilton's Fae series, but that's as far as it goes. It also reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer because Mac comes across as a southern version of a Valley Girl.

I got to chapter 7 before I decided that I could no longer go on and had to call it quits. Mac is just TSTL, but will since this is a series, and I just can't punish myself by reading something this poorly written.

Wow! This is a great new series. I can't wait for Bloodfever! Ms Moning has written the best suspense I have read in years. I can usually figure out what is going to happen next, but not this time.

The plot of the book is good and I enjoyed it, good fantasy content. But the main character is the absolute worst. She is not deliberately made to be villainous, sometimes characters like that can be likeable in their own way. The character Jericho was made to be likeable in that he is a jerk. But not Mac.

But no, this character is just an insult to intelligence. Not a single chapter goes by without you being slapped in the face with "hey reader, remember that she is a Southerner! Georgia peach! Remember that she likes pink but isn't girly! She likes isn't like the other girls!!!" I could get over this flaw if it was only the first two or three chapters where the author is establishing her character, but it is persistent throughout the entire book. It is grating and while I would want to find out what happens through the series, I can't fathom reading the same derivative thing over and over through the rest of the books.

I was skeptical of this series as I started it...but I'm not sure why or how anyone could have any skepticism over such a series because it is PHENOMENAL!!! By far the absolute BEST series I have ever set my eyes on. EVERYONE needs to enjoy this series for themselves!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!! Dark Fever is a 5+ star read, and its not often that a book ranks that high on my list. Its beautifully written, has a captivating flow and brilliantly flawed, relatable characters. Karen Marie Moning has been one of my favorite since the first of her Highlander series (which also ranks very high on the list; if youre looking for sexy, rugged heroes, the books in this series are just the thing.) But the Fever series has a totally different feel to it than her Highlander series, in a good way. Theres something down and dirty about Dark Fever. Its in the characters and the settings; everyones lying and hiding stuff, and Mac cant trust anyone. And the world shes been thrust into is one thats so seamlessly woven into our own that it makes the things she encounters more believable and more unfathomable. Mac is stumbling around trying to get her barring, and shes totally taken the readers along for the same ride.

Okay, I have to stop right now and say that this is the second time Ive read this book. Normally, I dont re-read books; I remember them and am not amused with stories that I already know. But I read Dark Fever right after it came out, and at the time it wasnt the kind of book I was looking for. I liked it well enoughits in my reading list with 5 stars, but it just didnt stick out. I dont remember what made me decide to give the series another try, but Im sure glad I did. The book is exactly what my now-self is looking for.

Part of the reason I love the book is how its written. In the first person, from a future perspective. Most of the book keeps you in the story, but a couple of times, Mac will pan out and foreshadow something, and thats a great twist. Its also hard to write. I have a hard time with first person, so I admire Moning that much more.

Now, on to the characters. Mac is Well, interesting. We know shes a virtual Barbie, or at least she was before her sisters murder. Its a good thing Moning didnt spend any time dwelling on Macs former self because if she had, I doubt I would have finished. Instead, were thrown right into the action and emotion, much like it must have felt for Mac when she found out about Alina. Mac also has great character development. For her to drop everything and go overseas like she does, all alone, shes either very brave or just plain naïve. Even she labels her actions as a mix of nativity and stubbornness. Jericho Barrons is Well, fascinating. All I remember about Barrons from my first read is that hes distant. An alpha male definitely, but one detached from the world and from Mac. This round I see so much more. Hes still an alpha male, but hes got a strong, complex character that weve only just seen the tip of. (Hehe, no pun intended.) Not to mention the secondary characters, who are also really cool and help build the background and scene.

This isn't one of my favorite books but a friend insisted I read it so I did. I like the character and story but I don't like the vulgar way some things are written. The story of McKayla and her sister is interesting. I've read this and the second book Bloodfever and still have more questions than I like to have when finishing a book.
