Well written and it took some adjustement to reading the entire story in first person, but it felt more comfortable the farther I got into the book. Not a cut and dried story like the Highland stories, but rather the first part of a story journaled by Mac and how she got caught up in this crazy Tuatha de' Danaan that she didn't even know existed. Contains a few sexually explicit scenes with V'lane, though no sex actaully takes place.
I read this book on a recommendation from Evie. She loves this series and is a fever-freak, she especially loves Jericho. So, when she told me you could download the book as a podcast for free, I was all over that! The podcast is on itunes or you can check out the podcast at www.darkfeverpodcast.com This book is the beginning to her fever series. While there is a lot of information pumped into the story, it was one that I really enjoyed. I was not distracted with the book written in first person, but sometimes it was too detailed. I have a feeling Ms. Moning wanted it that way. She wants her reader to be really connected to Mac. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Bloodfever. Faefever was just released, with the fourth in the series not coming out until 2009. I am not sure when the last book will be out. I wish that there was more tension between Barrons and Mac, although I understand that KMM couldn't put too much between them in the first book, and (***LITTLE SPOILER***) the fingernail painting was absolutely adorable and I will just have to settle for that and when Barrons saves her butt in the warehouse. DONE SPOILING So, If you want something different and adventurous, I think you'll be pleased with this book!

Awesome book. One of my faves! MacKayla is a Sidhe-seer but she doesn't know it, and when she goes to Ireland to try & find answers about her sisters murder, she comes to meet many different "others" she previously had no idea exsisted & her whole life changes. Not alot of "romance" in this one, which I liked. Much more about the story and mystery. Kept me up all night reading! 5 stars!

Even though I wanted to like this book, because I've like others by this author, I just couldn't get into it. It starts out cheezy and just head downhill from there.
The first-person narrative is weak and the character, Mac, feels very unpolished yet still manages to come off as annoying and immature. I hate to use the term "dumb blond", but here it fits. She's whiny, spoiled and easily unlikeable.
The storyline makes me think the author was a bit inspired by Laurell K. Hamilton's Fae series, but that's as far as it goes. It also reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer because Mac comes across as a southern version of a Valley Girl.
I got to chapter 7 before I decided that I could no longer go on and had to call it quits. Mac is just TSTL, but will since this is a series, and I just can't punish myself by reading something this poorly written.

Wow! This is a great new series. I can't wait for Bloodfever! Ms Moning has written the best suspense I have read in years. I can usually figure out what is going to happen next, but not this time.
