I wish I could give this book 6 stars - it is so good! This is another of the Breed's books starring Coyote Alpha Del-Ray Delgado and Anya Kobrin, daughter of one of the hated lab scientists. Anya has been working on the inside for her female Coyote friends since the age of 16 and feels like she is one of them, even though she is fully human. From the moment Del-Ray first saw Anya at 16, he wanted her, protected her and ultimately took her for his own when his men finally raided the compound holding many Coyote breeds against their will.
This story can't be and shouldn't be read in a hurry. There's so much depth to this book, unlike some of the other breed books. Just when you think that the heroine was going into TSTL territory, you find out something that makes everything "click" and then you are on her side 100%. Del-Ray himself...Alpha Delgado...is a man's man but his feelings for Anya overwhelm him and sometimes his way of protecting her only makes things worse. His genuine remorse is not forced or trite and is in every way believable. One particular scene has Anya feeling just about as alone and unloved as anyone could imagine and I found myself wanting to lay my head down and cry with her.
I highly recommend this book to ANY of LL's fans and any new fan looking to get started in the series.

I really wanted to like this book, but while I think there will be many that truly enjoy it - I didn't. There was just way too much angst and emotional turmoil that went on for far too long for me. The hero hurts the heroine over and over and over again by betraying and treating her badly in the beginning, then through not supporting or trusting her throughout most of the book. It's like the author took every viable opportunity (and ploy possible) to ramp up the tension level and believe me, she succeeded. The thing is, the hero did truly care about the heroine but was TSTL when it came to how he treated her (except in bed, thankfully). He just made one mistake after another - as in give me a break! Yes, it was a typically hot Lora Leigh novel, but I just couldn't enjoy it with all the overlying tension and the heroine's palpable distress! At one point, I wanted - to not even throw, but to heave the darn book against the wall.
To Lora Leigh's credit, this book is a definite success as far as drawing you in and keeping the tension level high, but the degree and type of tension is just not my personal cuppa. With that being said, though, if you're a die hard LL fan, you definitely won't want to miss this one. Read it - who knows, you may love it!

After reading Ginger10's review, I was worried that I would be disappointed in this book, but nothing could be further from the truth. I have read all of the "Breed" books, and think that the series just gets better with every new book that is published.
Yes, there is emotional turmoil, and yes the hero of the book does cause the heroine emotional pain, but in every instance it was done out of love for her. While at first you were like "how could he do that to her?!" once the reasons for his actions were explained to the reader and the heroine you could see that his intentions were good, despite unforseen consequences of his actions.
I love the strong characters that Lora Leigh creates, and with strong characters comes strong emotions, set within a dynamic and dangerous world. Highly recommended and is one of my fav's of the breed series along with Mercury's War. Will be a "keeper" on my bookshelves :)

I agree with many of the other reviews. Coyote's Mate is not the best in the breed's series. It is just an emotional whirlwind...the hero indeed causes the heroine such pain continously. The sex scenes are a bit much at times and I found myself skimming over much of those. I really enjoyed the other books that I've read in this series, but found Coyote's Mate to be somewhat of a disappointment. In my option, only the last 25% of the book is excellent. This part is action packed and the hero finally becomes a man worthy of his Coya. Because of this, I will continue reading about these Breeds to see what happens next.

I have read about 3/4's of this series and I am losing interest. This edition didn't do anything to draw me back in. I skimmed parts of the book that didn't hold my interest. The over-used plot device of horrible abuse just doesn't appeal to me. At some point, the alpha males merge into one.
While freeing the Breeds kept in a lab in Russia, Del-Ray Delgado shoots Anya's father and cousins and takes Anya with him. Anya has been leaking information for years to help free the Breeds and she is also Del-Ray's mate. She is understandably upset and the female coyotes leap to her help. Anya doesn't understand the way Del treats her and the mating heat isn't helping either. But, Anya is a strong woman and eventually Del comes around and treats her as he should. This is a great book and I think one of the best I've read so far. But, be forwarned, it is HOT and SPICY, but most of Leigh's books are. =:)

This is by far my favorite of the Breed books so far. The thing I loved about this book was how well the relationship was developed between Anya and Del Ray. Yes it was drama filled but for once her reactions and frustrations were not solved in a half page. Anya felt betrayed and was hurt deeply by Del Ray and it took her time to move past it. I really liked that in this book it is so well written that if Ms. Leigh chose she could remove the mating heat scenes and it would still be a great story. I'd highly recommend it! In fact it's so good this will be one that I keep and re-read! Enjoy:)

I liked this book a lot. Good story, strong, engaging characters, and a pretty fast pace. And what Lora Leigh book isn't just HOT HOT HOT?
That being said, I did have one small issue with Anya's character. For the majority of this book, she is supposed to be 22 years old yet most of her actions and decisions were those of someone a good 10 yrs older than her stated age. Even the most wordly 22 yr old I know wouldn't have had the wisdom to deal with the same situations in the manner in which Anya did.
I know--it's a nitpicky thing to get hung up on, but once I set that aside I was able to really enjoy the story. Can't wait for the next one!!
Happy Reading

Anya trusted and fell for Del-Ray since she first met at a tender age of 16, she was trying to rescue the coyote's there where at the labs she was in since she was a child and her family have been helping in the labs, she is the reason why the only 5 female coyote's that she befriended and saved them from death as many others. DelRay know after meeting this woman child- his worlds- that he will betrayal her. 4 years later after Anya has had enough of Del Ray's waiting, he has been rescuing the breeds she help transport to a different lab and he got them into his pack but he still refused to rescuer the ones in her labs. After her finial confrontation and told him to basically get his butt in gear or she will have to be put into another Council place and there will be no hope. She never thought from the last meeting and until she got back to the labs he decided to finally rescue. She managed to save two doctors from being murdered but she got all her friends out and the breeds saved but when Del Ray got to her and shot her cousins and her father she felt the betrayal deep down, but he also forced the mating heat onto her with out her consent and for eight mouths she she made him pay for what he did to her. After 8 long months DelRay and his team are back and he is going to mate his mate and find away to keep her safe no matter if his entire base will turn against each other, his pack vs Anya's Russian pack after his brother threaten Anya since Del Ray would not acknowledge Anya as hie packs Coya, head female. On top of DelRay's betrayal, they have a feline traitor in Base out to kill Anya, Anya's duties as coya is questions a lot, and her loss of the title, not to mention a slutty woman that Anya has caught touching Del Ray a few times and finds out they were lovers before Del Ray claimed Anya but not to mention the other times she didnt catch Sofia with her hands on Del Ray. There is a lot of emotions in this book and you can also feel Anya hurt through out this story.

This was a let down. It's one of my least favorite stories in the series. The overall quality of writing is not as good as other Breeds books. Both characters here are unlikable. Their relationship is incredibly messed up. He's well-meaning, but constantly does things to hurt her. She's supposedly smart, but is physically abusive to him, and far too accepting of the emotional damage he does to her. They bicker constantly. It's scene after scene of angst. After putting her through hell and basically putting her life in danger, he apologizes to her. It takes many chapters to get to this point and what does she do with the apology? She pretty much tells him he doesn't need to apologize. She understands why he did the things he did. At that point, I wanted to throw the book against a wall, but I didn't because I'm a good PBS member who wants to swap this book with someone else. The only thing I liked about this book is the glimpse we get into coyote society.

Lora Leigh has some exciting sex in her books... (ESPCIALLY THESE BREED BOOKS) which are only appreciated by those readers who are excited by different male instruments!

I have read all of the previous books in the series and this was one of my favorites! It wasn't just about the sex like some of the other books in the series. I thought the story was interesting. I actually cried at one point. I had delayed reading it for a few months because of some of the reviews. Now I'm sorry I did. I really enjoyed it!! Calab's story is next and can't wait for Jonas in 2010!
This is such a good book. I really didn't think Ms. Leigh could come close to my two favorite "Breed" books (Mercury's War & Meagan's Mark), but with this story she did. For some reason I was very reluctant to read this story, and actually just kept it on my bookshelf for about a 9 months before I read it. WARNING: Don't follow my example!! Read it as soon as you get.
Loved this one just like the rest. It was good to find out not all Coyotes are bad
I liked Coyote's Mate. One of my favorites out of this series.
This is one of my favorite Breed books, not only do you love the main characters but you fall in love with the secondary characters (female coyote breeds). There were times I was so mad at Del-Rey, and wanted to cry for Anya, but it all works out in the end. This book is an excellent story!
I like Ms. Leigh continued evolving description of the mating and knotting. Alot of emotion in this one. I finally see the coyotes different not just lowly. Enjoyed it alot...
I loved this book. Lora Leigh is one of my favorite authors, and never lets me down. I love that she made Anya a strong woman with her own inner weakness, and also a Alpha who is conflicted and not perfect. The difference in the mating leaves the breeds open for many more books which I will enjoy reading. I do suggest if you have the chance to read them in order you should, but they are great stand alones also.
Good read! Enjoyed the series!
I love Lora Leigh's Breeds. This series is fantastic and totally believable.
Another great Breeds book! I love the alpha males Leigh creates in her books and this one is almost too good to be true! All I can say is "yummy"! Give me more! Hot and intense sexual scenes with just the right amount of tease and temptation!
