A very interesting take on the dracula myth. Arkady Psepesh returns to Transylvania upon the death of his father and immediately here's the many rumors from the far away village. devil...covenant...vampire. He brings his pregnant wife, Mary to meet his family - his sister, Zsuzsanna and his uncle, Vlad.
This is a roller coaster ride of rumor, suspicion and terrified villagers. Such unbelievable things are happening to Arkady that he fears for his sanity. Mary is getting a different but just as horrifying education from the servants and Zsuzsanna. This is an extremely well-written horror story that leads you on an electrifying adventure encased in blood and death.
Note: Surprisingly enough Dracul means dragon and dracula means son of the dragon. How did vampire come from this?

Great read for anyone interested in the "old school" history of vampires. Has some great twists the reader won't see coming. I have the trilogy.

If you love Dracula - you'll love this trilogy. Written in the same "diary" format as Bram Stoker's classic. The trilogy gives you a before, during, and after to Dracula. Jeanne Kalogridis did an awesome job of writing her stories around the established classic so that it seems part of the original story. Read the set !!!

A selection of the Literary Guild and the Doubleday Book Club. This book is amazing and reads in the classic vampire overtones as the original vampire book, Count Dracula.
Although it is second in a series, you will not miss not having read the first or the last, it stands on it's own merits!

In 1845, Arkady Tsepesh and his pregnant wife, Mary, travel from England to his ancestral home in Transylvania on the occasion of his father's death. It is destined that Arkady, as eldest son, will assume his father's duties as aide to his great-uncle, Vlad Dracula. The family's blood ties dictate that Arkady must do his uncle's bidding, but it soon becomes apparent that Arkady's allegiance could destroy his wife and unborn child. Written as a prequel to Bram Stoker's Dracula, this is the first title of a promised trilogy that will continue Vlad's story and ultimately mesh with the classic novel. This debut is a real chiller, erotic and gory enough for any vampire fan, and essential for all admirers of the original

This story is written in journal format by main characters. It does a wonderful job of making the setting feel very "Bram Stoker" while giving another twist to the Dracula tale. A must-read for fans of this genre.

I loved this book. Can't wait to read the next. I was always so obsorbed in Anne Rice that this author escaped my attention. She sure has it now. Great Read!

The author's style is similar to Stoker's Dracula. It has the correct feel, and was very enjoyable to read. If you are expecting a more modern take on Dracula, this in not the book. This is the traditional version.
Book 1 of the Diaries of the Family Dracul series.
Equal parts fascinating and creepy - did not end the way I expected it to at all!

This is really a great book as soon as I quit trying to compare it to all the movies I have seen. It is really very good gives you three different points of view and lines of thoughts. Great story can't really explain it without giving it away but very much worth a read especially if you like dracula and Vlad the impaler has made you wonder why?

"In a land of superstition and faith, an evil covenant has been kept for four centuries. Now the young man, Arkady Tsepesh, has returned to inherit that pact, to learn the dark truths that will seize his soul and everything he holds dear...
