I had this new audio version (1998 Blackstone) recommended to me and agree that it was very well read. The reader (John Lee) was very good at creating appropriate voices for each character and maintaining them throughout the story. He kept my attention for the entire 37 disk/49ish hours --- so that's saying something. Every time a character uttered, "ma fois!" it made me smile to hear him say it with the proper dandy accent.
The thought amuses me that I now know how to pronounce all of the French names of characters and locations in the story...but probably won't recognize them in print!
