I read this because of a friend's review. The story is about a young girl who has a rare disease: she can't be in the sunlight. It burns her skin. She has imaginary friends who promise to help be rid of it. In the end, Lila, finds joy and acceptance in the life she has.

The simplicity of the language here is deceptive. It takes a skilled writer to use sparse and simple words and leave an indelible impression. Subtlety is an art. In this book there is an undeniable magic and hope that resonates with the reader no matter how old she is.
