A very thought provoking and insightful book about time and a war(s) that I vaguely remember even though I should have. This really brings it home in full color and yet has an amazing story of the ways in which people cope in the face of such hopelessness. Definitely recommend it!!
What a fantastic, magical story this book turned out to be. I was unsure of whether I would enjoy this book, and in the beginning almost gave up. I am so happy that I chose to continue. Filled with emotion, this story is a must read!

I was in the mood for a well-written book and picked this up because of its reviews. Unfortunately reading about horrible torture, starvation and war-torn lives barely living, psychologically damaged by two wars was too much for me. I finished it, but it really brought me down and I wished I'd left it on the shelf.
Left me breathless. Beautiful writing about a horrific subject. It starts off a bit slow but don't give up. Deeply moved in and unforgettable.
