This is an excellent book to use for homeschooling. I help homeschool my grandson and I used this last year. It would be good for about 2nd - 3rd grade, maybe 4th. If you go above that the literataure section may be a little childish. The geography part looks at different features, for instance Oceans, Mountains, Forests, Rivers, deserts, Grasslands. For instance - We made a booklet and each section has a cover page - vocabulary section - a world map for each section where they can mark the continents and oceans, forests, etc. of the world - a mural in the ocean section you can make - all reproducible pages. Then they give you a choice of pieces of literature that goes along with that section with many suggestions on how to use the story. We chose Christopher Columbus, by Rae Bains, for the ocean section since I was working with a boy :) It gave ideas and a 1490 Map where we could chart Columbus' journeys. My grandson really enjoyed geography last year and loved doing the maps that came with each section. The book is in very good condition - I tried to be very careful when I reproduced the pages so the book could be used again. It is a softcover book, so there are some creases in the cover just from use, but no tears.
