This is a Gabriel Allon novel. He is a Jewish Mossad agent and art restorer who lives in Italy. There are repeat characters who we are happy to see and some who we know will create havoc and death. Very intriguing and well written. This story takes Gabriel right to the Pope who also wants to uncover the truth about the church's response to the Holocaust...while a powerful cardinal plots against Gabriel and the Pope. I highly recommend this book.
suspenseful spy thriller.
I really like Daniel Silva's books and this one is not different. Has many twists and turns and seems very realistic
I enjoyed this book enormously. Daniel Silva has a wonderful protagonist in Gabriel. Descriptions of areas are comprehensive and this one dealt with the Catholic Church during WWII. It is always fascinating to learn what various religions did during this time (or did not do). If you like action and history relating to the Nazi's and WWII, this is probably a good bet for you.
Another good Gabriel Allon thriller by Silva. A lot of intrigue concerning the role the Catholic Church played in the persecution, mass deportation and extermination of the Jewish people in Europe.
I loved this book. It follows up on events as Moscow Rules ended, but it can be read as a self-standing book as well. The drama, the excitement, the close encounters, the intrigue are vintage Silva, and the characters are well-drawn. Hard to put down, this book captured my attention with every page. I highly recommend this one to anyone interested in thrillers.

Excellent book. Great story line, as always. Silva has become one of my favorite authors of all time.
A little too contrived, plot is really center around Jewishness/Holocaust rather than the Catholic church.
I don't know why I wait so long to read the next in book in this series. They are fantastic. Everything you could possibly want from a spy thriller. A wonderful, broken main character. A plot full of intrigue and history. And the secondary characters aren't too bad either. I could take or leave the subtle love interests in every book, but I guess you need a bit of romance to spice things up, eh? In this book Gabriel is brought back into the spy fold to solve the mystery of the death of one of his former agent buddies who has turned into a famous scholar. This scholarly friend had been researching the Catholic Church's involvement in the Holocaust, is that what got him killed? The mystery, the chase, and the digging into the past will bring Gabriel into contact with the highest and most powerful members of the Catholic Church. Hang onto your seats people!

Liked this a lot - usually start reading one of the books in this series and don't do anything else until I've finished. The descriptions of places are beautifully described - you can almost picture them in your mind. Liked the twist at the end - can recommend this book.
A well written spy story that is very enjoyable to read. After reading his first book I went on to read more of his work. I highly recommend his books.
I have read all of Daniel Silva's books and enjoy each one. If you like stories about spys and intelligence, you'll love this one.
This book by Daniel Silva is one of the best books I have ever read.Gabriel Allon takes a back seat to no one,all the other heroes can stand aside. Adventure,suspense,all the ingredients of a great thriller.
This was a gripping tale from start to finish. Better than "The DaVinci Code."
