This book started off with a bang, and the premise was good for the first few chapters. Around the 10th chapter i gave up as it started getting wierd and "churchy"

From what I did get out of the book was we meet Allay, who became a 1/2 human 1/2 demon when she was a teenager. Apparently she stumbled upon a dying demon named Plea and got her essence by simply touching her. Now Allay feeds off peoples' emotions, specifically "relief" She has a demon friend, named Shock, who works in the ER trauma unit. She feeds off peoples' shock emotions. Anyways, Shock shows up at her bar and births a new demon whom they called Petrify. Apparently the Demons must kill or take another demon every 200 years in order to stay alive. So basically they overdose on emoptions and create a new demon.

Anyhow, then another demon named Pique attacks Allay in front of her bar, and a man named Theo comes to her rescue. Then Shock is attacked twice while shes recovering inside Allays' apartment over the bar. So they decide to take Shock to her creator named Revel. After that they end up going to see Dread, who is second demon in command to VEX and GLORY. After that, things got wierd. It was like they were in a church or something, and the story line lost me.

Like I said, it started off good, but I got lost and gave up. I did however like the character named Savor. Apparently these demons can change their appearances at will and wear different "personas" which I thought was kind of neat too.

I put this book down after the first chapter. It started off way to slow and frankly, weird. To say I think a book is weird is weird in itself since I love the strange, out of the ordinary and more. I couldn't get into this book at the beginning. Nevertheless, I remembered that some of my favorite books had horrible beginnings. So it was in this case as well. The book really picks up in the middle. It is a fun read and you really become enthralled in the lives of the demons. You won't be disappointed if you stick with the book and you'll be very happily surprised when you find yourself reading non-stop once you get past the start of the book.

Meh. This book had an interesting premise, but it was just too convoluted and not that well written.

Started a little slow, but gets better as the writer seems to settle into the characters. Most of the first few pages are taken up with establishing how the demons interact with the humans, thier history, and back ground. Really hits its stride about page #100 when the author has established the world, the characters, and the current conflicts. Does contain graphic sex, although not as graphic as some other writers, and is more "vanilla" if you will than some writers. Although I guess some would consider sex with demons really kinky. Would like to see more books if this is to be a series, and see how Allay (pronounced A-Lay per the book) matures.

Theo Ram is tall, handsome, and mortal-and Allay feels a connection to him she didn't think she'd ever know. But that bond is tested when the demon community in New York begins to rise up, and two opposing clans fight for power.
