Helpful Score: 6
I listened to the unabridged version of THE CONDITION on CDs. I thought the narrator's tone of voice did not do anything to enhance the story. I think this might be one of those times when it would have been better to read the book myself.
Having said that I have to admit I did not like the story. Maybe because I am at a different point in my life, but I found the storyline about each character to be rather depressing.
Actually THE CONDITION is not about a medical condition but rather the condition of the family after the daughter, Gwen, is diagnosed with Turner syndrome (a chromosomal abnormality). I found that I wanted to know more about how Gwen felt and how she experienced her life but the story seems to revolve more around her parents and her brothers. To be perfectly honest, maybe there was more to the story but I only made it through the first 4 CDs before I decided there were other audiobooks that I would rather listen to, so I just stop listening (I gave up waiting for the storyline to improve).
