Hey, Sassy!

Like you, I've always owned PCs--going back to the 80s!  However, my computer-illiterate sister was given a MAC laptop at Christmas, and now is telling all of us about the joys of using a computer.   ;)  Anyway, here's my 2 cents.

The MAC is certainly easier to use, and if you're virus-prone (GAD--like my Mom is!), probably a better choice.

If you like using the multiple buttons on your mouse however (and I do) you will be unable to do that, as the mouse has just one button.  The touchpad provided on my sister's laptop, though, is really cool.  It does far more than the touchpad on my PC laptop.  Makes up for the mouse, but you need to retrain yourself to do what you're used to doing.  Additionally, there is less software available for the MAC, as Windows still rules the world, for better or worse.

Both are good systems, but after seeing my sister soar in her computer knowledge, in such a short time, I would recommend a serious look at the MAC side if you are at all interested.

Best of luck!

The better you are at using one, the more the other is going to seem like a pain because you will have to learn a totally different way to do all of the same things you can already do. Also, if there's a specific set of software you need to run, first make sure you are getting a machine that it is compatibale with. Aside from that these are the main pros I've seen:

For PC:

1. A lot more people have them so unless all of your friend's have Macs, you might be able to get more help with them

2. If you are into computer games, there are a lot more of them.

3. In general PC's tend to give you a lot more freedom both with hardware and low-level settings, so if you are a real tinkerer you might get to learn more with this.

For Mac:

1. Less freedom/power in geeky area's can be a great thing (Really). I don't know much about cars, but I wouldn't want a button in my diver's seat that would give me the power to make my engine tear itself to shreds. Macs are usually harder to break because they make it difficult to change things that most people wouldn't want to change anyway.

2. People usually say they are more intuituve for total beginers to learn to use.

In general I'd say Macs are best if all you want is to browse the web, run office software, and other high-level applications besides games. If you lke games or want to learn about and get creative with the nuts and bolts, Windows would probably be better.
