One of the best all-around soap-making books. A great book for beginning soap makers as it has a lot of basic information in it. I think that all of the milled soap recipes can also be used with melt-and-pour soap base in case you want to experiment with the recipes without actually making your own soap from scratch.

This was the first book that I bought on soaping and I love it.
It has specific recipes for making soap from oil and lye. The method used in this book for "fancy" soaps is rebatching. Rebatching is where you melt the soap base that you made and then add the additives like scents, spices, oatmeal, etc.

It is a good introduction for the beginner.

One of the best soapmaking books I've seen yet! The instructions are clear,thorough, and easy to follow. Love this book, my nephew and I have been pouring through the different soap recipes and trying them out! This book is staying with me for a while!!

I never got to use this book. I received it as a gift over five years ago and then got pregnant and didn't want to risk using the lye called for. It is a beautiful book with great recipes and instructions....

Good pictures and instructions, but nearly all recipes include the use of tallow (which is rendered from animal fat). If I had known this, I wouldn't have requested this book.

There are many parts of this book that are not clear. Most of the recipes are for re-milled soap - so it's a two-step and labor intensive process.

Not for the beginner, unfortunately.

Clear, straight forward instructions. Plenty of different soaps described. Good troubleshooting section. Not overly fancy, just useful.
