Love this author. I had a hard time finding a place to stop and put the book down which made it end way to soon for me. The settings of the Hawaiian hillsides and South Africa were beautiful, a place where curses were cast, many secrets were kept, and death and love surround a hurting family. I enjoyed the characters, they were true to life, sometimes likeable, sometimes no so much. Story leaves much to ponder on when you are finished. I liked this novel alot.

This is the debut novel by the same author who wrote "Above", which has been wildly popular. That is why I wanted to read it. She is a good author, but I did not like the main character of this book one bit... She is not able to be kind or positive in any way or to anyone. Yes, she has lost her child. So did her husband, yet she cannot comfort or feel for him; she is only wrapped up in her own pain. No matter who is kind to her, or what the circumstances she finds herself in, she is dark, moody, and enraged. Had she had a few more redemptive qualities, I would have given this book a much higher rating, as the author's writing and descriptive phrases are very good. D.
