When Gem Cutter Kate Chandler's brother, Lee, disappears with the seven rare Blue Sapphires called the Seven Sins, she worries that something terrible has happened to him. The FBI believe he stole the precious stones and left the country. So, she beings investigating herself. FBI Agent Sam Groves is assigned to a task force trying to stop the rise in gem thefts. When he sees Kate stealing a sapphire from a gem dealer, he tracks her down thinking she will lead him to the organization behind the thefts. But when Kate tells him everything, he decides to help her which may jeopardize his career.
This story just didn't work for me. So many characters were introduced in the first 80 pages, I was very confused. At least 10 of these characters told the story from their point-of-view. The story finally started to flow but there really wasn't very much suspense. This book had lots and lots of details about the gem trade. I felt like an expert after reading this book. The romance portion was just OK. My rating: 3 Stars.

"A fast-moving story that unfolds in the glamorous, greed-driven subculture of the gemstone trade...Lowell writes sharp, tough dialogue, even in her love scenes...Readers will approach the jewelry counter with new eyes!"
I didn't realize it was a romance mystery till after I got part way through. The mystery was interesting enough - focusing on the gem world - that the romance didn't detract.

While I don't enjoy Lowell contemporaries as much as her historicals, this was a great fast paced read.

I read this because of the subject matter- I'm a jeweler. It was OK. The tech stuff was interesting but not entirely accurate from a jeweler point of view; still, it did a good job of providing atmosphere and a bit of mostly accurate info about the gem trade.

This is a wonderful book. Diologue seems real, an enormous amount of research went into it(at least it seems like it(who new gems could be so interesting?)), well paced. Excellent. Some books make you want to go out and get every book an author has ever written. This is one of those. If you like good mysteries, you will not be bored reading this book.

I am in love with how well Lowell can combine suspense, drama, comedy and romance to come up with a great read (again...). Like any of her novels, you'll be hooked from the beginning!

Kate Chandler is a world-class gem cutter. She cuts 7 stones that are rare and priceless and during a transfer to the owner they dissappear along with the courier who happens to be her brother. Kate is sure her brother is dead and the stones hijacked. Entering into a world of deceit, betrayal and cold-blooded murder, Kate tries to find out the truth. She finally gets an FBI agent to believe her and the race is on to find the killer before Kate's life is snuffed out.
I enjoyed the story line except for the jumping around from character to character in telling the story. Sort of made it confusing. Other wise a very good read.

I like the romance and the mystery - including the gem world portion.
Althought there was too much detail about gems for my interest, it was a good romantic suspense novel. The chemistry between the hero and heroine was very good and I wish there had been more of them in the story.

The mystery part of this book is great; the cutesy sexual foreplay gets old real quick and seems relatively high school and stupid.

Good and suspenseful - this one's about a gem cutter who's involved with a shipment of sapphires that disappeared without a trace - along with the courier who is her brother. She's trying to find him and the gems. Gets involved with an FBI agent.

good read - gems, gents and guessing ... all good stuff
Romantic suspense involving missing sapphires, a gem cutter and an FBI agent.
It took me a while to get into it because of all the characters, but it was well worth it-a good read.
