When Gem Cutter Kate Chandler's brother, Lee, disappears with the seven rare Blue Sapphires called the Seven Sins, she worries that something terrible has happened to him. The FBI believe he stole the precious stones and left the country. So, she beings investigating herself. FBI Agent Sam Groves is assigned to a task force trying to stop the rise in gem thefts. When he sees Kate stealing a sapphire from a gem dealer, he tracks her down thinking she will lead him to the organization behind the thefts. But when Kate tells him everything, he decides to help her which may jeopardize his career.
This story just didn't work for me. So many characters were introduced in the first 80 pages, I was very confused. At least 10 of these characters told the story from their point-of-view. The story finally started to flow but there really wasn't very much suspense. This book had lots and lots of details about the gem trade. I felt like an expert after reading this book. The romance portion was just OK. My rating: 3 Stars.

"A fast-moving story that unfolds in the glamorous, greed-driven subculture of the gemstone trade...Lowell writes sharp, tough dialogue, even in her love scenes...Readers will approach the jewelry counter with new eyes!"
I didn't realize it was a romance mystery till after I got part way through. The mystery was interesting enough - focusing on the gem world - that the romance didn't detract.
