Hannah Perry is taking a much-needed vacation on an island with her young son, David. She is approached by the local police when they learn she is a forensic artist. They have discovered a skull and would like her to use her talents to reconstruct the face for identification purposes. When someone breaks into her house and tries to kill her, Hannah grabs David and makes her escape on a boat, only to have it capsize in a storm. Gage Blackwell is jogging on the beach when he sees the boat turn over. He pulls them to shore where he recognizes Hannah. He used to date her and didn't know she had returned home. Now he vows to protect Hannah from whoever is trying to kill her.

This story started off with a bang, but the momentum quickly dwindled. We got to hear about how Hannah and Gage used to be in love until he dumped her to go off and become a Navy SEAL. Gage later injured his arm and started a business bodyguarding and training special skills to law enforcement. Now he wants a second chance with Hannah; but doesn't know if she is interested.

Hannah was devastated when Gage dumped her, but she overcame the anguish and later married. Now she is a widow and doesn't know if she can put her trust into another man. She does trust him to guard David and herself; but doesn't know if she wants a relationship.

This story was billed as a Christian Romantic Suspense story. The romance portion of the book was flat for me. I didn't care if they got together at all. The suspense parts were the best parts of the book. My rating: 2.5 Stars.
