Gibson Vaughn starts out the book in confinement. Where? For how long? When will he be released? WILL he be released? He doesn't know. He has company when he finally DOES get released from the CIA's black-site custody â his father and his sister. EXCEPT, both are dead, and more reflect what he expects (or occasionally DOESN'T expect) they would say in such circumstances.

There are 3 basic subplots revolving around in this book â the police wanting to know where Vaughn was when his house burned down under suspicious circumstances, the need for revenge on the CIA operative who locked him up, and â finally, more than 1/2 way through the book â an explanation of just what âCold Harborâ is, while plotting an operation against the organization.

If that description sounds a bit jumbled, it's probably because that's how I felt while reading (or rather, listening to the audio of) it. This is the 3rd book in the series (I did not know it WAS a series when I started), so characters and circumstances were not immediately fleshed out. I would assume that readers who have been along for the ride since Book #1 would have had an adequate grounding, but for me, I spent the first 1/2 of the book wondering if I should put it aside for later, and if âlaterâ would ever come. Mind you, sticking it out, the 1st half of the book provided me with enough information to fully enjoy and appreciate the 2nd half, so slogging through was the right decision for me.

RATING: 3 1/2 Stars, rounded down to 3 stars where fractions of stars are not permitted.
