In the weeks leading up to the Civil War, an old friend is called to a family's side after a series of unfortunate accidents takes the lives of several family members. When he arrives, even stranger events begin to happen in the home. Could this family be cursed?

This book is a good read for fans of historical fiction with a mysterious edge. Several characters in the book are real figures of history, such as Frederick Douglass and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
