This was an okay book, although towards the end it had improved. I just can't give it "rave" reviews when they're not due, although the author is improving as the series goes on. Maybe it's just me, but I find that the continuity in these books has just, well... sucked, for lack of a better word. ;P I find myself reading about the characters suddenly getting from point A to point B without a whole lot of transition so a person is left to filling in some things on there own. Perhaps this is just because the author is not as good at describing the characters' environment and actions as some other writers are able to do.

I want to like Sookie, I really do, but sometimes she is just plain annoying with her whining. She complains that Bill won't help her with money but she can't ask him because she'll look like a "kept" woman. Ummm... everybody already knows you're screwing a vamp so I don't think they're small town minds will probably think it's the least he can do by helping you out. (Regardless, those small-town minds will ALWAYS find something to talk about so get over it Sookie!)

Then, there's the pining away for him even though she knows he cheated on her (which conveniently wasn't his fault, according to him--apparently guys don't get better with excuses over the years). I kept thinking "Good grief, have a little more respect for yourself and MOVE ON!" Apparently she selectively "forgot" how he also likes to drink off people and not just stick to the synthetic blood so he can get that extra something... and after what happens when Eric donates, well... Let's just say it's not platonic drinking that goes on when Bill taps a willing donor.

Another FYI. If you've just disposed of a body and have to buy another shower curtain and go to Wal-Mart to buy a new one, well, paying in cash doesn't mean there's no record of you going there. Hellooooo.... cameras..... like in the parking lot, at the registers and exits, plus at other little areas.... Sorry, that was something that just stuck in my mind after the author had Sook feel proud of trying to beat forensics and such. It's just that sometimes, I find Sook TSTL.

BUT--- There is getting to be a light in the darkness with a couple of the supporting characters. Eric definitely grows on a person. And Bubba is just great (even for someone NOT an Elvis fan and who adores her pets!). Alcide isn't too bad either. So, there's finally some reasons to really keep reading the series so I didn't waste my money on buying the books! Yay!

Plus, Sookie did get a bit better at the towards the end when she finally snapped at Bill & admits to herself what a jerk he is. I personally would have wrapped that silver chain around his Lorena's "Bobbit" regions! (yes, pun intended)

In book #3 Sookie and Bill, her vampire boyfriend/lover, encounter some hard times, both in life and in love. I have enjoyed this series a lot, getting impatient while I work my way up the wish list for the next book. Apparently a lot of other PBS members like these books!

I won't tell you the plot, just my reactions. There's a lot of mysteriousness surrounding why Bill has been kidnapped by the King of Louisiana (did you know vampires had divided up the country into kingdoms?) while working for the Queen of Louisiana. Hmmm. Eventually, when we find out the reason for everything that happens, it isn't all that convincing to me. Minor disappointment.

Sookie gets involved with a "were" (as in werewolf) being who, while in human form, is a sensitive hunky sort of guy. There are romantic sparks flying right and left while she's with him. Interesting new territory here for Sookie.

Overall, my reaction is very positive, falling into A- to B+ territory. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment.

I really enjoyed reading this book. In fact I think it has been my favorite Southern Vampire novel thus far. The characters were fun and the story was not too confusing. Unlike the last book, this time Harris stuck to one clear mystery so it did not seem as random. I liked the new characters introduced, especially Alcide, and I liked that Harris is still letting the read learn more about the culture of supernatural creatures. I will definitely continue reading the series.

When the book begins, Bill, who has been working on a 'secret' project, has been kidnapped and is being held hostage in Mississippi for his secrets. Much to Sookie's dislike, Bill had also been recently shacked up with his maker, who he subsequently planned on leaving Sookie for before he was betrayed by said maker. What a mess, right? But what else could or would a fan of the Southern Vampire Mysteries expect?

Despite Bill's betrayal, Sookie, with the help of a werewolf, heads off to Mississippi to find Bill. There's a lot of drama, a lot of arguing, a lot of mystery and a lot passion. Bodies pile up and violence increases as the story goes on. Werewolves and shape shifters are very important in this third book, which is great in making the Southern Vampire Mysteries about more than just vampires. Sookie's world is indeed full of the paranormal and supernatural. It's a wonder a girl can get any peace, which doesn't seem to bless Sookie often. The mystery that enfolds Bill and his kidnapping isn't that intricate or hard to solve. It almost seems to happen too easy, which is forgivable because the book is just so entertaining. In the end, I didn't mind that Sookie was all but able to just ease Bill out from under his captors and rescue him because there was drama and tension everywhere else. The build-up was not in her rescuing Bill, but in her finding him. The climax of tension was in her getting to the house and finding a way to save him, not the rescue.

Eric makes a much larger appearance in this third book, which I feel really adds to it. You can't deny that there is some great chemistry between Eric and Sookie. Then again, it just could be because I think the two of them would make an excellent couple and have a more interesting dynamic than other couplings in the books. This book has solidified my respect for Eric. Sure, he comes on strong and hard, often times a bit cold, but he's actually quite charming and funny. If anything in this book made me laugh, it was some of what came out of his mouth.

I don't know yet if this is going to be my favorite but it is my favorite so far. Now that the characters have been fairly developed the story line is getting better. Some familiar faces are back like Eric and Bubba and then there are some new characters that I wouldn't mind returning later in the series like Alcide. Bill is not in a whole lot of the book and neither is Sookie's boss, brother and co-workers. Most of the book takes place outside of Sookies home area. If you enjoyed the first two and you like mysteries I think you will love this one.

This is the third book in the Southern Vampire Mysteries series centered around Sookie Stackhouse.

Sookie's love Bill becomes involved with a secret project and leaves town. Unfortunately, for Bill he becomes missing. Eric, the sheriff of area 5 wants Bill back or the program he was working on so that he can cash in on it. Either will do him and of course the obvious way to do that is to get Sookie to help.

Eric sends Sookie to Jackson to "listen in" on some humans that are at a club nicknamed Club Dead. He forces Alcide a were to escort Sookie to the club.

Sookie finds out that Bill's intentions were to leave her for his maker until his maker, Lorena decided it would be more fun to torture him for information. Sookie finds herself caught between a rock and a hard place. Should she help Bill? He was going to leave her. Does she still love him enough to be with him and overlook that fact? Of course he is a vampire without any human emotions.

Not only that but Sookie is struggling with her hormones with Alicde, Eric, and Bill. She feels as though all the Supes (supernatural beings) are attracted to her while normal humans are not. Poor Sookie all she wants it a normal life where she doesn't get beat up.

Luckily, for us as the reader that doesn't seem to happen for Sookie. I really enjoy this series. I find it very entertaining. I don't mind the highly fictional at all.

This book is when it starts to get VERY different from the TV show. The names of the major characters, and their general identities, are similar, but other than that it's a completely different story. That's actually a very good thing, since I had no idea what was going on or what was going to happen as I read, and it made the excitement much greater. I actually really love the original version. The book makes for a much more solid overall story than season three of True Blood, which had uneven storytelling and moments that didn't fit. Both are great, but I highly recommend reading the books if you haven't done so. I'm loving them so far, and they're promising to get even better now that I'm into unique territory.

I really liked this story although I wish Sookie would not get hurt as much as she has. I also think that Sookie and Bill may not make the best couple so the storyline was good and gives us more history into Bill. Although I hoped it would have had more about his relationship with Lorena but it did not.

So far out of the Sookie Stackhouse books this one was my favorite. The introduction of a new character by the name of Alcide Herveaux probably what made it so popular with me. It boggles the mind the adventures that Sookie Stackhouse can get herself into, but yet again, there she is, right in the middle of vampires and wherewolves. I didn't know that shape shifters could be so much fun.

In this third outing, Bill is pulling back from Sookie, actually spending more time on his computer then on her, if you get her complaint. So when Sookie finds out that Bill has an up coming trip she figures there is a big lie in there somewhere but when Bill is discovered to be missing she turns to Eric who just might know where to find him. And this might not be good news for Sookie.

With the help of Alcide, sometimes you just have love the names that Harris comes up with, a werewolf, the antics begin in the search for the missing Bill.

Though this book did seem to drag in parts for me, the interaction between Eric and Sookie is always entertaining and with Harris slowly revealing Eric's background I can see a much more entertaining character develop.

Ok of the series I liked this one the least. However it is a must read in the series. SPOILER ALERT:

Eric is too love sick. Bill and Lorena's relationship is not explained enough. Most importantly you finally get to figure out "Bubba". Alcide, well again I think more of his story and Debbie's was left out there. I felt like there was not enough story line for all the stories going on. And Sookie...well she should be DEAD.

I have never read this "genre" of books before but I'm completely hooked. I have 2 copies of this one, therefore I am posting it now. However, I have the complete series but they are now being past to my best friend and after that to my niece! We are all hooked on the series. Both my niece and my friend turned their noses up when I offered the first book to them......they are now rushing me to finish the rest of the books and pass them on. I am presently reading Dead as a Doornail. The books are we written and you escape into this other world and you begin to start rooting for the vampire over everyone else. Anyway, I love the books and think they are a good read and they always leave you wanting the next book to find out what happens. Little cliff hangers if you will. I recommend you try at least one!!

It is a great addition to the Sookie Stackhouse story. I read it pretty fast because it is fast paced and I couldn't wait to see what happenend. I love the way Ms. Harris adds different kinds of mythical beings slowly to add to each book. We get to discover them with Sookie and, yet, get to know then from her sympathetic point of view. I'm new to the series and for someone who is not into this genre... I can't quit reading it. I love this series!
This is book 3 and probably my favorite. There was plenty of action and I just loved Alcide. In this book, Bill (Sookie's vamp boyfriend) has become distant and secretive. He disappears and Eric enlists the help of Alcide(who is a werewolf)and Sookie to find Bill. Sookie hangs out at Alcide's place and starts to get feelings for him. At the same time they are trying to find out who might have Bill. That's when all the fun starts and doesn't end until the last page. As always, I love Sookie's humor, brashness and all over southern politeness. She is really what makes the books as wonderful as they are. Having a bit of supernatural "eye candy" tied in as well doesn't hurt.
If you've read the first two and enjoyed them, I highly recommend this one as well.

In this third installment of the Sookie Stackhouse series, Sookie's loyalty to vampire boyfriend Bill is really tested. With the addition of sexy, sweet werewolf Alcide, her world turns upside down. Throw in a little Eric Northman (please!) and you have a triangle of historical proportions! Bill is taken hostage by the King of Mississippi and Sookie goes WAY out of her way to try to find him. It was this book that changed my mind about the way I saw Bill and firmly planted me in the camp of "Team Eric!" The action in this book is a little difficult for me to follow at times as I was thrust into a world I did not have knowledge of in the first two books, the world of werewolves. The romantic tension runs high in this outing and the mystery builds nicely and is resolved beautifully. Great book, as are all the books in this series.

Ok, so I watched True Blood on tv and had never heard of Charlaine Harris. I started this series out of boredom and read the whole series straight through in less than a week. Can't wait for the next one. All of the books are a tad repetitive on the character description (how many times do I have to hear about Sam's halo of strawberry blonde hair or Eric's Nordic good looks?) but very entertaining, light hearted and thoroughly addictive. Well, I think I have enjoyed this one the most so far! More werewolves, plus the added bonus of not much of Vampire Bill present. Though I would still like to be seeing more of Sam.... Still, Alcide's character was a lot of fun, not to mention the continued development of Eric! At this point I think it would be pretty fun to see the two of them together....

This book is the third in a series that I am thoroughly enjoying. Although this book stands on its own, I highly recommend that you read books one and two before starting this one. The story is a beautiful blend of comedy, romance, suspense, mystery, and supernatural elements. You won't be disappointed. I simply could not put this book down and jumped right into reading number 4 when I finished.

This is a great sequal to her previous two books, and is one of an extended series. The stories are always funny, and I can hardly put any of them down. This particular story takes place in a different vampire district other than the heroines own, which leads her into all kinds of trouble. I highlt recommend this book to anyone who likes their vampires on the lighter side. There aren't any really gross sceans in this book. Although there are some death sceans included, they are not as bad as many of them that I have read.

Thought this was pretty good, however I want to know why every supe seems to want to bed Sookie (maybe it's just me, but she seems to be getting "easy" since Bill was her "first").

I do like the new characters, and I'm liking Eric a lot more. Plus Alcide (don't get me started, I adore him!!!) is a major plus to the story.

All in all, Bill get's kidnapped, though things aren't always as they seem. Sookie meets new vamps, weres and shifters, there's ups and downs, but just about everything seems to work out in the end...or does it? You'll have to read it to find out!

Another fun Sookie Sackhouse mystery. Unfortunately, the similarities with Laurell K Hamilton's book are coming through with the introduction of a new "furry" character..but it is worth the read.

Sookie is sooo my hero in this book! She survives so much crap from these ignorant men and manages always to get the last word in.

Bill is kidnapped, or is he?, and it's up to Sookie and Eric to save him. Of course the undercover work requires Sookie to be shacking it up with a Were-wolf. Eric still as relentless as ever for his affections for Sookie. Much of this book is an emotional roller coaster. On the edge of my seat, I could not put this one down. Season 3 of the HBO TV series should rock!

Well I have to say that these books are getting better and I'm glad they are. This is the best one so far. How much more beating up can Sookie take? Can't wait to read the next one and I want Sookie and Eric to end up so bad that hopefully it happens in the next book.

I'm enjoying this series and this was my favorite book so far. What I like about the books compared to True Blood is that here we know what Sookie is thinking/feeling more. It makes her romantic encounters seem less slutty and gives her a little more substance. These books are fun, easy reads and I like that the story line differs a bit from the show.

Leaving off from the first installment, Sookie has a promise to fulfill to Eric, the vampire Sheriff of the area in northern Louisiana. She is unofficially his employee (and yes, still full-time barmaid too), gleaning information for him as needed using her gift or disability as she calls it to read other peoples thoughts and emotions. Pretty handy thing to have at his disposal, and he decides to lend her out to the head vampire in Dallas when one of their own disappears.

Sookie arrives with drama ensuing. Bill, her vampire escort, and boyfriend, check into an exclusive vampire hotel, catering to their needs. She meets with the head vampire, Stan (you have to giggle at some of these names considering what other authors usually name their characters in this genre) and learns that a vampire named Farrel was last seen in the local vampire ran bar there. What was a simple information gathering mission turns into Sookie risking her life and running into more than she bargained for.

This series is so well written with plot twists and turns, and moments that are just plain humorous and funny, you kind of forget that youre sort of reading a new pop culture book with an established fan base. Unlike other books of notoriety, this series thus far has earned it. In comparison to the first book, which do not get me wrong, was very good, you can see Ms. Harris growing and finding her footing and the characters represent that. My favorite character, by far, has to be Eric and even he has found a sure footing based on portrayal in this book. There is of course some sex scenes but they are tastefully written and I can stomach them as a valid part of the storyline and just not cheap content filler due to lack of talent and/or imagination of the author.

Sookie Stackhouse is having man trouble. Her vampire boyfriend, Bill, has been distant and inattentive lately. Then he announces that he is going on a business trip, which clearly is more than it seems. After a werewolf tries to abduct Sookie at work, Bill's boss, Eric, tells her that Bill fell under the sway of his--Bill's, that is--ex, a sexy vamp named Lorena, and has been kidnapped. Eric wants Sookie's help in getting Bill back, and despite her hurt over Bill's betrayal, Sookie agrees to go to Jackson, Mississippi, to find her wayward lover. Eric has persuaded Alcide, a dashing werewolf, to get Sookie access to Josephine's, aka Club Dead, the local hangout of Jackson's supernatural element. In between dodging kidnappers, the advances of amorous Eric, and her growing feelings for Alcide, Sookie has to find out who kidnapped Bill and figure out a way to rescue him. With some droll touches--Elvis, now a vampire, is Sookie's faithful guard --Club Dead is ideal for readers who like their vampire fiction light, humorous, and fast-paced.

From the backcover:
"There's only one vampire Sookie Stackhouse is involved with (at least voluntarily) and that's Bill. But recently he's been a little distant--in a another state, distant. His sinister and sexy boss Eric has an idea where to find him. Next thing Sookie knows, she is off to Jackson, Mississippi to mingle with the under-underworld at Club Dead.
It's a dangerous little haunt where the elitist vampire society can go chill out and suck down some type 0. But when Sookie finally finds Bill--caught in an act of serious betrayal--she's not sure whether to save him...or sharpen some stakes."
