A good, behind-the-scenes look at the details involved in solving cold cases.
Helpful Score: 4
Maybe Connelly is tired of the Harry Bosch series. The Closers fails to deliver the punch of earlier books in this series. It was much more a police proceedural rather than an action book; the plot though interesting was easy to see through to the killer. I had the feeling that Connelly dashed this one off so he could move on to other things.
Nevertheless, Bosch fans will want to read this. Harry's back after three years of retirement (and a failed marriage). He's paired with Kiz Rider, but Edgar is on his own with Hollywood Division. We also see Harry's nemesis Chief Irvin S. Irving. In short Connelly delivers, but fails to hit a knock-out punch.

This is yet another great read about Detective Harry Bosch, who has rejoined the force after 3 years of retirement. He is assigned to the Open/Unsolved Unit where he investigates a 17-year-old murder of a 16-year-old girl. He is re-partnered with his former partner Kiz Rider. Michael Connelly continues to write engrossing stories that are tough to put down. I'm looking forward to reading his next one, "The Lincoln Lawyer" which I've already obtained through PBS! Paul C.

Working in the Open/Unsolved unit of the LAPD, Harry Bosch has to solve the murder of a teenage girl in 1988. Amazing how once overlooked details spring to life and how forcefully some people try to keep them covered. A good read.

Very intense. A fast read. Couldn't put it down. I'm a new Michael Connelly reader, and love everything I've read so far.
This book is one from the Harry Bosch series written by Michael Connelly. Harry is called back to join the elite Open/Unsolved Unit. He and his partner are assigned to solves murders whose investigations were flawed, stalled, or abandoned to L.A's tides of crime. Connelly keeps you in suspense until the very end.

Solid but unmemorable. Harry Bosch returns to the police department and works a cold case murder. Good by mystery standards, but not as clever or gripping as most of the other books in the Connelly series.

A very good book! Harry Bosch returns to duty after 3 years of retirement. His first Open/Unsolved assignment is a 17 year old murder. This first book after his return from retirement sets the scene for a lot of future cold cases; and I play to read 'em all.

Harry comes back to LAPD as a homicide investigator of open-unsolved murders. The first case he and his former partner, Kiz, leads them to back to the department. A surprising ending but great detail in how they find the bad guy. Excellent read.

Another fantastic Harry Bosch novel. Very atmospheric.
Michael Connelly is (IMO) one of the finest mystery writers today... and The Closers doesn't disappoint. Love that Harry Bosch!
A Harry Borch mystery - very good
A retired detective goes back to the force and works to solve a cold case, the murder of a young girl. I enjoyed this book and like this award-winning mystery writer.
Great Read !!!!
Well written and engrossing crime drama. Harry Bosch at his best.
He walked away from the job 3 yrs ago but Harry Bosch cannot resist the call to join the elite open unsolved unit. his mission; solve murders whose investigations were flawed, stalled, and abandoned. with some people openly rooting for his failure, Harry catches the case of a teenager dragged off to her death and traces of DNA on the murder weapon to a small time criminal. but something bigger and darker beckons and Harry must battle to fit all the pieces together. Shaking cages and rattling ghosts, he will push the rules to the limit and expose the kind of truth that shatters lives, end careers and keeps the dead whispering in the night.

first 'Cold Case', the case of a teenager taken from her bedroom and dragged off to her death on Oat Mountain and traces the DNA on the murder weapon to a small time criminal. But in typical Borsch fashion the trail does not end here.

When I first started reading this book, I didn't want to put it down. Michael Connelly, the author, has open the door to cases that needed closure. Bringing Detective Harry Bosch, out of a three year retirement, and placing him with his former partner, Kizmin Rider, was a win-win stitution for everyone, because they were "The Closers"!
Not as good as early Bosch books but still pretty good.
Loved this one! Harry's back at the police force working in cold cases with his old partner, Kiz. Love those two together! Great read!
The death of a teenage girl almost two decades ago comes back to haunt all of L.A. -and detective Harry Bosch-in this spellbinding new thriller from New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly.
Love the Bosch series!
Another in a great series, Harry Bosch comes back to the force in the unsolved crimes unit. Lots of layers, lots of depth with the characters. Michael Connelly is one of the best mystery writers you will ever read.
This is a perfectly plotted police procedural starring Harry Bosch and Kiz Rider. LAPD has allowed Harry to come out of retirement and join the Open Unsolved Unit with Kiz, his former partner. Right out of the box, they latch onto a 17-year-old murder of a young biracial girl (with a single gunshot to the chest).
The new police chief admonishes the two detectives that procedures and detectives are much more skilled now than earlier. There were errors made in the past, and the chief tells them to avoid these and bring resolution to any cases they can. When viewing the murder book, the detectives notice that the detectives of the time were pushed to avoid treating the case as a racially-motivated murder (because of the racially-tense times in LA during that era). When a case has interference by the upper echelon, officers call the case having "high jingo." The two detectives realize that the case was not resolved because of this interference. Before long, they realize that Harry's nemesis, Deputy Chief Irvin Irving, was the cause of the 'high jingo.'
The case takes less than a week but the story is dense with the explanation of the way police work. I found it to be fascinating; others might not be so keen on in-depth explanations of procedures. I think this is an exceptionally fine book. Enjoy.

Harry Bosch returns to the L.A. crime scene to solve cold cases. As only Connelly can can tell the story, Bosch's mission is to solve an old murder of a teenage girl. DNA leads him to a small time criminal and perhaps trouble again with the L.A. police department. Good storytelling. Good Mystery. I couldn't put it down.
Easy read but not the best connelly novel!
A retired detective returns to solve a cold case. Good reading.
quick read.enjoyable!
I will be reading more awesome book...
I am typically not a fiction reader at all. However, I happened to pick this book up, read the back, and it seemed to be quite an intriguing story.
The Closers is a story about retired LAPD Homicide Detective, Harry Bosch. After being out of the game for three years, Detective Bosch returns to the LAPD and is assigned to a cold case squad, referred to as the Opened/Unsolved Unit. There, Bosch is partnered with Kiz Rider. The pair is assigned a 17 year old case that involves the murder of a girl of mixed race, that is brought to light after DNA on the murder weapon produces a match. The rest of the story is Bosch and Riders fight to seek justice for the girl. The ensuing story has a decent mix of misdirection, bad luck, good detective work, and police politics.
When I began reading this book, I had no clue that it was the 11th book in a series. As a credit to the author, the book was well written and I did not feel lost, not having read any of the other books in the series. The story line dragged a bit, but it was still very enjoyable.
If you are interested in cold-cases, this is a great book to read. It may be fiction, but it was neat to read about some of the detective work behind such cases. The book was quick reading and overall was quite enjoyable.

This is a "must" read. Great!
Thriller/mystery novel. Det Harry Bosch back at work on closing unsolved cases.
great read, Harry Bosch is back.....this time he is back with the LAPD working the cold case files.
This was a very good book. The latest in the "Harry Bosch" series.
This book was great! I loce Michael Connelly and this book was great. I couldn't put it down!
good story; keeps you reading
Connelly seldom disappoints and he came through again with The Closers. He's got me hooked!
Hard to put down!
Like the characters, good read--does get a little bogged down a time or two and repeats some but overall, a good book
Very good, kept me turning the pages.
Was a good book. Well written and a quick read, always making you wonder what will happen next. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys suspense and detective books.
This was my first Connelly novel and was I IMPRESSED! A non stop page turner - I was upset when I had to close it to work or take care of my family. I'm sure you'll love it as much as I did!
I have tried and tried to get into this book but I just can't. It is boring as heck!
The death of a teenaged girl almost two decades ago comes back to haunt LA and Detective Harry Bosch in this spellbinding thriller. In LA 1988, a sixteen yr old girl disappeared from her home and was later found dead of a gunshot wound to the chest. The death appeared to be a suicide - but some of the evidence contradicted that scenario and detectives came to believe this was in fact a murder.
enjoyed reading this book
Connelly is one of the best mystery writers around today. Articulate, literate, creative, he is for me one of those who are currently holding the gold standard. He can sometimes seem unrelentingly dark, but he's never boring, and never ever stupid.
Harry Bosch comes back to the job after three years of retirement specifically to work with still open cases with his old partner Kiz. They immediately become involved with an intricate case that could explode in their faces because of the intervention of one of their bosses in stopping the investigation years ago. Evidence "lost" and possible racial problems simmering in the death of a biracial teenage beauty make this a page turner that I didn't want to put down until I finsihed. This is how mysteries should be written!
Highly recommended!

MICHAEL CONNELLY IS A GREAT MYSTERY WRITER
Harry Bosch cannot resist the call to join the elite Open/Unsolved Police Unit and expose the kind of truth that shatters lives, ends careers, and keeps the dead whispering in the night.

Connelly is one of the most consistently excellent authors of Current day crime fiction. His characters are complex & appealing, his stories are fast paced, edgy and believable. Great fun to read.
Harry Bosch is back from retirement and now working on "cold cases". He leaves no stone unturned to solve the 17 year old murder of a teen-age girl...I enjoyed this book, but it wasn't the page turner that "The Poet" and "the Narrows" were..Nancy B.
A retired police detective returns to the force to work open/unsolved cases. The first case he and his partner are assigned involves a 17 year old murder case of a teenage girl. Traces of DNA from the murder weapon widen the case to encompass other crimes.
Another great Bosch detective story, great police procedural, Bosch goes back to work with LA police force after a retirement of 3 years.
Another Great Book though its a bit less on the politics and has the usual twisted ending. Build up a Bit slower than the others.
Very good book about closing a cold case.
Wow, I really enjoyed this book. Someone in the forums recommended that if you like David Baldacci novels then you'd enjoy Michael Connelly too. He was not wrong! As soon as I read the first page of this book I was hooked and could not put it down. It chronicles two detectives assigned to solve a 17-year-old cold case. The details of the investigation, like the justification they have to go through to get a search warrant, or how they do a stake-out were so well written that I felt like I was right there doing the investigation with them. You really get to know the characters and care about them, and with every step you feel their frustration turn to hope, only to be changed with the next twist that they have to work out.
Another page turner.... great read for those who like mysteries
Suspense thriller
Another excellent Harry Bosch crime drama!!!
It is a good read.
Harry Bosch comes out of a three year retirement to tackle the cold cases and manages to wrap up a 17 year old case, in the process going head to head with the brass (so what's new) A great read.
This is the latest police procedural starring Harry Bosch. I think it is as good as the previous ones, and would recommend it!
THE CLOSERS by Michael Connelly: LAPD detective Harry Bosch is back on the force assigned with former partner Kiz Rider to the Cold Case unit. Their first case back involves the killing of a bi-racial high school girl 17 years before, reopened because of a DNA match to blood found on the murder gun. The blood on the gun belongs to Roland Mackey, a local lowlife white supremacist. Connelly meticulously leads the reader along with Bosch and Rider as they explore the links to Mackey and along the way connect the initial investigation of the crime to a police conspiracy. In the process Bosch and Rider gain a better understanding of their own purposes in life. One of Connellys best and Bosch is back on the job, thank goodness. As he says, without the weight of his gun, he limps.
New York Times Bestseller...
Very engaging story.
An excellent book, well written and follows locala procedures,..fairly well.
Michael Connelly is never disappointing. Hoping to see more on Harry Bosch soon.
This is great story. I loved the action in this book. I highly recomend this book.
After three years in early retirement LAPD Detective Harry Bosch is ready to return to a new post - one of an elite team of experienced cops assigned to the Open/Unsolved Unit, aka 'cold cases.' The team has just caught a break, DNA evidence in a years-old case in which a young girl was dragged from her home and killed on a nearby mountain.
But there are those who are anxious that this case NOT be solved, because doing so might open a can of worms concerning the Department's original handling of the investigation, and reveal corruption among certain high level personnel who are still on the job.

As usual an excellent book by this author. First of his cold case mystery series
Surprise ending. Good writing.
"Connelly comes as close to anyone to being today's Dostoyevsky of crime literature, and this is one of his finest novels to date." Publishers Weekly
This was a good book. It is a typical Harry Borsch book.
Great novel about Bosch re-joining the Dead Case files. His first "case" with retested DNA evidence is a doosey!
Harry is back, and he's got a cold case that rapidly heats up!
Good author - good story. Well worth the time on a winters evening...
This is a great book. Fast reading. Kept you guessing until the end. Would read other books by this author
A very good read
A wonderful Harry Bosch novel. Great layers of plot in a suspensful crime story. I've read all the other Harry Bosch novels and this is the best one by far in quite a while.
Excellent read. I enjoyed it very much. Good mystery story.
As the title suggest it is about a semi-retired policeman who joins the elite Open/Unsolved Unit. My husband enjoyed this more than I did so the rating is his.
A CSI story. It's good.
True Harry Bosch all the way! Still bold, still sassy.
Harry Bosch is back, closing the Open-Unsolved crimes.
Grabbed my interest from the very beginning.

GREAT BOOK BY MICHAEL CONNELLY.
Good Harry Bosch story
This author s amazing! His narrative is riveting and so clear you feel like you are working right along with Harry Bosch. This one is a favorite, and I've read many!
Harry Bosch is back with the LAPD as part of the Open/Unsolved Unit. His first case is about the murder of a biracial teenager seventeen years ago. The case has been reopened because the DNA found on the murder weapon has now been analyzed and a match has been found. Harry and his partner, Kizman Rider, start weeding through the evidence, trying to put the pieces together.
It's nice to see Harry back with the police department again. He's trying very hard to be a team player and not cut his partner out of the investigation as he has done in the past. He has a new boss that seems to believe in his investigators and works well with them. This mystery had lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed it even though I guessed the killer early in the book. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

Grisham always delivers a fast-paced read. Literature it isn't.
