This was a book with a lot of emotion - both the romantic kind and the family kind. It was also an intelligent, adult book, with a very appealing hero! I need to go back now and read its predecessor, which I missed. I would recommend any other of Kathryn Shay's novels.

From the back cover:

Close to the top...Secret Service Agent C.J. Ludzecky has been on the job for only six years and already she's made her mark. Her dedication to her career lands her the assignment of a lifetime: protecting the vice president's wife.

Close to happiness... Aiden o'Neil feels responsible for his father's recent heart attack, since it happened when Aiden told him he wanted to leave the family business and follow his love of photography.

Close to you... At the hospital Aiden's family gathered together, including his siste, the Second Lady of the United States. Though keeping her professional distance, C.J. finds herself drawn to the close-knit clan, and especially to Aiden. But will their mounting desire for each other destroy their seperate dreams or make them all come true?

This is a follow up book continuing the story from "Someone To Believe In" also written by Kathry Shay.

Both are excellent books to read.

I like Kathryn Shay books. This is about a Secret Service Agent named C.J. who guards the Vice President's wife. The VP's wife has a brother named Aidan who adds some spice to this story.

Being a female in the Secret Service isn't easy, but C.J. Ludzecky has worked her way to the top. Her latest assignment is protecting the Vice President's wife, Bailey O'Neil. When Bailey's father suffers a heart attack, her protection detail stays with her at the hospital. That is where C.J. meets Bailey's brother, Aidan O'Neil. Aidan blames himself for his father's heart attack. C.J. is drawn to Aidan, but knows there can never be a relationship between them. She has already been accused of sleeping her way to the top. The accusation was untrue, but she will not risk the career she has worked so hard for.

This was a slow-moving contemporary romance. C.J. and Aidan are immediately attracted to each other, but she won't let down her guard for a minute. She loves her job and wants to continue with the Secret Service, but she knows Aidan would never be able to handle her being in danger all of the time. There was a lot of discussions about the danger in this book, but there weren't a whole lot of dangerous situations, even when threats to the Vice President's family are received. My rating: 3 Stars.
