I've been an Ellis Peters fan for many years. This book is up to her usual standard of fine writing, brisk pacing, colorful setting, interesting characters, and a mystery that defies solution until the end. For those who love mystery fiction, and especially by British authors, City of Gold and Shadows delights both the general reader and the one who follows DCI Felse from adventure to adventure.
