Mesmerizing fiction story of people involved in and around a circus, based loosely on a real circus in which the author's relatives were involved. Begins by telling about the owner's personal life and how it dictated his purchase of the circus and then moves forward a few years, then back, then forward many years, all tying together either performers or one particular family or even families who just lived in the town. Very well-written, especially since many of the stories are very sad. Great book.

A sweet collection of interrelated stories about the stars and crew, and family members of the Porter circus. The last story nicely ties all of the stories together and explains why everyday should be a circus day!

I really like a story about the days of the circus gone by. There is such a romanticism and nostalgia about it despite the ugly truths that we know hide just beyond the big top. The author presented such fascinating characters that we mourned for and celebrated with as if we knew them personally.
