This is one of the best books. Re-read it about every 5 years. Working on my 6th copy. Keep lending it so other can read it and I don't get it back. Highly recommend this book. Teachs that one should look below the surface and there is dignity to be found everywhere.

I read this book when I was in middle school and just reread it this summer. The story is so amazing! It's based in some fact, but also has quite a few fictional elements. I love the characters of Christy, Fairlight, Neil and Miss Alice. This book is definitely worth owning and reading over and over.

I read this book as a teen, a young adult and as an adult. Like all good stories, this one appeals to all ages. A young woman from a upper-class home, sets out to teach children in the Appalachia. She learns about these people, herself and God.
You will not regret the time to read this book, and will wish that there was more! I highly recommend this for any young women, 14 and up.

This is an AWESOME story! First, it's based on a true life event. Secondly, the style and flow are so enjoyable to read. I have read this one many times (not this copy....just the book!) and always enjoy it. Find out about the "old time" missionaries in America. It's a love story...a story of hate...a story of diversity...a story of fables and colorful language....a story of great characters....a story of Queen Esther....bootleggers...beautiful children and details about clothes, food, nature, you won't forget this story and your heart and faith will be lifted up.
A girl who learns how to trust God through hard but extremely rewarding missionary service. A beautiful romance which touches the heart and the spirit!
A book about dreams that come true with hard work, determination and compassion. I loved this book way back in the '60's, still love it.
Very good christian classic
I never read this book back in the years it was released but picked it up for a bookclub last year. It has become a favorite of mine. Full of good quotes that help bring perspective to life. The story is well written and depicts an era in American Appalachia that I knew nothing about. Highly recommend for teens and adults.
One of my favorite books of all time. Long and VERY worth the read. I don't think the TV series did it justice at all.
Excellent classic!
Very enjoyable! Christy is written in the tradition of the "Little House" books, but has some romance thrown in.
"One of the best-loved of all american novels." A story of a young teacher and what she encounters and learns in the Smoky Mountains. Very touching and moving.
One of my favorite stories as a kid. I loved the descriptive style of this book. The way Marshall explains the people and community are so vivid.
Inspiring book.
loved this book read it twice
One of my all time favorite stories.
I didn't care much for it myself.
Catherine Marshall is great! Christy is the book upon which the CBS television shows were based.
A young girls leaves her home to teach school in the Smoky Mountains. She comes to know the mountain people with their poverty and superstitions. A mountain story with great vivid characters and a love connection as well and was made into a TV movie.
I really enjoyed this book.
Excellent series on tv and the book as well was great and very interesting to read.
What a wonderful story, very old fashioned...reminded me of reading the Little House books when I was young.
I liked this book a lot. It was better than the movie.
A young girl, living a good life in New England, hears about a need in the mountains. She goes there to help the people and falls in love with the area and the people. This is her story, and it is basically a true one.
At nineteen, Christy Huddleston left home to teach school in the Smokies--coming to know and care for the wild mountain people with their fierce pride, terrible poverty, dark superstitions...and their yearning for beauty and truth. But in these primitive surroundings, Christy's faith would be severely tested by the unique strengths and needs of two remarkable young men--and challenged by a heart torn between desire...and love.
