A somewhat long tale about a dysfunctional family, one of whom is murdered in a locked room. I pretty much picked out the murderer early on, then a red herring was shoved in my face. After a chapter or two, it was back to my first choice.
The real excitement comes about when they figured out who did it and how. Or maybe not, as in both cases the Scotland Yard Inspector leaps to the answer when his sergeant mentions something.
Still, it was entertaining and that's what novels are suppose to be. I've read other novels by Heyer and enjoyed them. Plus, I have more too.
I would have only given it four stars, but I added another half star as there were no vampires or zombies in the story.
