Dollycas's Thoughts

This story starts with a misidentification of a victim at the hospital that is going to change nurse and volunteer firefighter Jaelyn Reed's life forever. Defense attorney Adam Spencer is on a mission to catch the killer who killed his wife and unborn child 5 years ago. His quest takes him to Jaelyn's hospital as he follows the hitman's wife hoping she will lead him to her deadly husband. Confused when he sees Jaelyn, she looks just like the woman he has been following Maya Barlowe. With Maya unconscious Adam convinces Jaelyn to work with him to save herself and her twin. They make a surprising discovery hidden in Maya's hotel room. A baby girl who now needs protection too.

Hold on tight! From the start, this book immediately pushes you to the edge of your seat and you will not move back until you turn the last page.

Jaelyn Reed is alone in the world after losing her parents in a car accident followed quickly by her cheating scum of a boyfriend leaving her. She fills her days and nights as a nurse and volunteer firefighter. A slow night at the firehouse had everyone taking DNA tests. When she found out almost a year ago she had a match with a twin she didn't know what to do and had no family to ask for an explanation. Now that twin is in the hospital where she works. Why? How?

Adam Spencer may have the answers she needs if they can both stay alive long enough for him to tell her what he knows. Both of these characters are strong in many ways. They have to be. Adam has lost his faith in God though after losing his wife. He has to reexamine that throughout the story to sustain his strength and get him through some dangerous times. Ms. Alexander has given readers multifaceted characters who need to depend on each other and embrace their faith. She brings some remarkable humans/angels into their path to help them along the way too.

The race is truly on from the time Adam and Jaelyn flee the hospital with the bad guys on their heels. Whenever they think they are safe and take a moment to breathe they are found and have to run again. The author set such a fast pace the pages were flying across my Kindle. It was impossible to put down. I enjoyed the ways the characters continue to evolve throughout the whole story. Strangers who had to depend on each other for every step they took, through the woods, along the beach, on the highway, bullets flying, and trusting others to find them safe places, while trying to stop the hitman before anyone else was killed.

Secrets, lies, surprises, heartbreak, and an epic twist will keep readers spellbound until the final word. Christmas in the Crosshairs is not the way to celebrate the holidays but after justice is served and the criminals are behind bars it is time to rejoice.

Well-plotted and written, full of suspense, builds to a romance with bonds that can't be broken. A Perfect Escape! 5 starfish!
