This is the 3rd book in the Fresh-Baked series starring retired teacher-cum-amateur sleuth Phyllis Newsom.Phyllis is looking forward to finishing up an unlucky year by enjoying a Christmas Cookie contest and a neighborhood cookie exchange but someone has decided to strangled Phyllis's elderly neighbor, Mrs. Simmons, and whack Phyllis on the head when she discovers the body...I enjoyed the book and the characters and look forward to the next book in the series called "Killer Crab Cakes".

Phyllis is back at it--but this time it's right next door! Stay glued as she tries to rule out other neighbors. A surprise ending--not terribly plausible but I really like Phyllis, so follow her exploits.

I do love this series and am enjoying each new story. The characters are growing with the stories and the relationships are developing nicely. Looking forward to the next one.

After having mixed feelings about the first two books in this series, I am happy to say I really liked this one. It is definately not a "beautiful day in the neighborhood" in Washburn. Many different plot lines surround the actual murder. It is difficult to tell which lines will actually go to solving the case. Some good development of the main characters.
