Sweet, funny and deeply moving. I stayed up until 1 am - on a work night - finishing this book. Couldn't sleep until after 2 because I cried so hard. One of the finest stories of pure love, and its power to redeem the soul, that I've ever read. This one will be on my "favorites" shelf for a long, long time.

This book was one of the best books I've read in a very long time! The author has had some horrible experiences in her life but the way she writes about them never has you feeling sorry for her or feeling as though she wants sympathy or has that "woe is me" attitude. While they make you feel sadness for what she went through, they make it all the more clear and understanding why she has this incredible bond with Lay Me Down. Rarely have I been affected personally by a book, this time I was. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone, especially those that did not have a traditional or fantastically happy childhood. It is also a wonderful book for those who have a love of horses (or animals) and can understand that they can be like a family.
A touching story any animal lover would enjoy.
A lovely memoir about life, love, animals and regaining yourself. Susan Richards' touching story is about her love of an abused mare named Lay Me Down. This book is very well written. Susan Richards is a very good writer and she doesn't write in a haute style. When you read this book it's like setting down with a good friend, a cup of tea and talking personally. This is one book I will always have in my library.

I do animal rescue as well so I could relate to the alot of the book. Having said that, although touching, I found myself skipping thru alot of this just to get to the meat of the story. It was a good read but nothing spectacular...just ok.
I found this book to be a delightful read.
