Summary:
Connie's tale is about to come to an end. After dealing with a lot of her personal issues in book three, she continues on a rather darker journey in the fourth tale. Within this tale, Connie has to deal with a Chimera. Along with the Chimera, the final conflict with Kullervo must be handled. This is done in a fairly original way which may leave us open for more of a storyline in the future.
My thoughts:
Although predictable, this has been a wonderful story. I love the ecology themes that are interwoven within the series. Since this is an extremely hot topic, it's nice to have books for middle age children that reflect the current times. Each book is also very action packed. I've read each book in one sitting and never found a part that I wanted to "just get through". I would have liked a little more description of each mythical creature. There is enough to picture them if you have some prior knowledge, but if this was the first time you had ever heard of the beasts, then I don't think the reader would have a strong visual. As a high school teacher, I like to hand these books off to my reluctant readers or students that are searching for a genre to get into. Since they are rather small books with easy to read vocabulary, they are not intimidating. In general, I would say they are good for a high 3rd grade reader to an average 4th grade reader.
