Don't let the cheesy cover art scare you off - this first volume of Kilpatrick's Power of the Blood is a fast-paced & interesting offering in the vampire genre. She starts it off with an erotic thriller that puts the survival of a human/vampire halfbreed (often called dhampirs in the genre) in the hands of one flawed but gutsy human woman.
As a side note, Kilpatrick is a well-regarded author in this sub-genre, an award nominee and winner. Her best-known work is probably "The Goth Bible," but she is also the author of several horror novels & short stories, and has written for "Buffy" as well.
