Pepper Martin is a woman who fell and hit her head on the steps of a mausoleum and then started being able to talk to spirits. This is the second book in the series. In book two its Didi Bowman, who needs Pepper to prove that her sister Merilee stole Didi's manuscript "So Far the Dawn", a Gone with the Wind-like tale with a fervored fan following. There are some cozy mystery elements (Pepper is an amateur sleuth, the mystery was really light, and the really violent stuff happens off-screen: Pepper almost gets killed a couple of times, but I wasn't worried), and very light romance with a detective (Quinn Harrison), and a "brain man" (Dan Callahan) who keeps trying to study her and isn't all he seems. A light read.

2nd in series. I gave this book only 3 stars because the writer repeats too many "flashback" references to Gus (ghost she helped in the first book) Plus all the doting over "So Far the Dawn" idly shrunk down to: SFTD (almost like a Gone with the Wind type story) I constant found myself rolling my eyes and forcing myself to finish this one. There were too many sub-plots, although everything fit together at the end. The only thing we didnt find out in this book is any more information about Dr. Dan. Is he a doctor, reporter, orchestra member? He keeps showing up and dissapearing before we can figure out what he's after.
It wasnt a bad book, just slow moving when compared to the first book, which IMO was much better.
Will continue with the series. Just glad this one is over with.

2nd in the series (first book is "The Don of the Dead). Pepper Martin, a cemetery tour guide, receives "The Gift" after hitting her head on a tombstone. However, since the gift is the ability to see ghosts this is one gift she wants to return. Very funny paranormal mystery.

Fun and Fast. Pepper is developing some real emotions as apposed to the shallow ones we were introduced to in the first book. In addition to Pepper's newfound character depth the Brain Man becomes more obscured, and Quinn remains a steady influence. I love the mystery, the tongue in cheek humor, and the surprises.

The Chick and the Dead is a great follow up to The Don of the Dead. This mystery picks up right where the last one left off. Pepper Martin works at Garden View cemetery and has the sometimes annoying ability to see and talk to the dead. Especially those who need her help to move on. This particular mystery involves two sisters and what can happen when greed overcomes morals.
This book was hard to put down. Though the outcome always seemed obvious, I never felt 100% certain of the outcome of the book. I finished this one in a day and it was worth it!

This story is the second romp of amateur sleuth-cemetery guide Pepper Martin. This time Pepper hops aboard the Merry-go-Round of family dynamics. This time the family "embarrassment" has been dead but not gone for 50 years. She has been hanging around to get credit for the book she had written that had become wildly popular. As Pepper goes around and around separating truth from fiction (yes we know it is all fiction) she exposes some dead on truth of human behavior. So it is nice to know that even in our mass market book world what goes around comes around.

I have to admit I almost didn't get this book because of all the bad reviews from other readers. I am so glad I decided to get this series. I really enjoyed this book. It was a cute light read even if I did read them out of order I don't feel like I missed too much. It helped pass the time as we were stranded without power from Hurricane Ike here in Houston, TX. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Absolute fun to read. Ever since the former rich girl turned cemetery tour guide banged her head on a headstone, she sees dead people. Worse still, she hears them and they won't shut up. Her latest "ghost client" has asked her to prove her famous novelist sister did her wrong. Soon Pepper unearths more than she bargained for - an illegitimate daughter, a bunch of illicit love affairs and a possible murder. Suddenly a very poisoned pen is all set to write Pepper out of the story permanently.

The 2nd book in the Pepper Martin series by Casey Daniels is as much fun as the first if not maybe just a little more. After her adventure in the first book Pepper thought her time as a paranormal sleuth was over, then she walks into her office and meets a new ghost. This time it's a girl from the 1950s named Deborah, or Didi for short, who needs her help to prove that she is actually the author of a famous novel that her sister took credit for writing. Pepper eventually finds herself in over her head once more but the more she learns about Didi, her family and her death, the more she refuses to give up. Old and new characters abound as Pepper works her way through the story and all are fun to read about. The ending might not be to original but since the concept and execution are so much fun I can forgive that. So far these books are fast easy fun reads, with some light mystery, comedy, action and romance. Start at the beginning and you just might find yourelf hooked and wanting more!

This is an great series!
Didn't even read the whole thing. I skimmed the middle 150 pages or so and was able to completely follow the plot. I found the main character very annoying.
