Engrossing, well written story based upon a simple premise. The story would only work if set in 1962 and Ian McEwan has succeeded in recreating the time and the mindset of the time.

Interesting. Graphic intimacy.

An insightful book exploring a wedding night (and the pre life of both and the post life of the male) of two sexually inexperienced individuals trapped within the social conventions of England in the mid 20th century. Well done story--I think most of us can relate to many of the issues presented as we all have a first time (or don't). A love story that emphasizes the importance of sex to relationships and then deemphasizes its importance in the big picture as well.
