Books with carb counting guides or list of do's and don'ts for the diabetic are a dime a dozen these days. A book that deals with the reality of life as a diabetic, that looks at the history of diabetes treatment - truly unique and INTERESTING. The author has Type 1 diabetes himself, as does his son and the author's brother is one of the premier doctors treating diabetes today - he knows what he's talking about.
If you really want perspective on how far diabetes treatment has come in the last century and where it may go in the future, this is an excellent book. It's not talking about how to treat the big D - just history and insight into modern medical practices. Knowing how far we've come is relieving to me - it says that maybe the cure will come, but at least we can live until it does.

This book is for someone interested in the HISTORY of diabetes. The author, his brother, and his son are all Type 1 diabetics. The book uses instances in their life --and also goes back to the "founding father" of diabetes research.
Interesting read to be sure, but I was looking for something along the lines of "do this and this to control your diabetes." This is NOT that book!
