The heavy sexual content/innuendos in the beginning of the book was not to my taste. However, as I continued to read, I realize the subject matter of the rest of the book would not have had the same "zing" without the beginning of the story. The action scenes of jumping from planes into the fire and the fight of the fire were excellent with the added adrenalin rush of arson & murder. The hot and steamy young lovers vs the sweet romance of the older couple made a nice contrast. I'm glad I continued to read the story.

Very Good Book! Very strong characters. Gull is the perfect man, and Rowan a smart, sexy, strong woman. This story gives you some insight into a zulie's life; fighting fire, quick thinking, and courageous.

Murder, arson, mystery, thrilling fire fighting sequences, and two people who aren't looking to fall in love having fun when it happens. The secondary romance between the heroine's father and a school principal is especially sweet. If you're looking for a romance with some action and suspense, this is your book!

This was a rough read. I loved reading about what fire jumpers do, but the writing and language was very rough. Lots of swearing. Some of the sentences had to be read again and again just to understand them. The 2 main characters were fleshed out, but not anyone I'd want to be too close to. The other characters were easily mixed up with others. There was an actual storyline, not just romance, but it took quite some time to get to.

Wildfire season is just beginning and Rowan Tripp has returned to her job as a fire jumper after a tragedy last season killed her jumping partner. Rowan's job between fighting fires is to help train the new recruits. One of the rookies, Gulliver Curry, keeps asking her out. Rowan is attracted to Gull; but has a policy that she does not hook up with her co-workers. That doesn't stop Gull from trying to change her mind. As the season begins, Rowan finds a charred body while fighting a forest fire. The identity of the body is someone who once worked at the firefighter's compound...someone who had a huge fight with Rowan only days before dying.

This book had pleasant characters who worked in a unique profession. I had never read about fire jumpers before, but I learned a lot reading this story. It was billed as a romantic suspense novel. I was entertained by the romance between Rowan and Gull. There was no angst or misunderstandings between them. There was also a secondary romance in the book that was thoroughly enjoyable. The suspense portion of this book was very light until the end of the story. I wish there could have been more balance between the romance and suspense in the book. My rating: 4 Stars.

Great read as good as all her books.

Typical Nora Roberts. Perfect yet approachable heroine with no cellulite and a to-die-for hero that everybody loves. Well researched profession of the h/h that is showcased and seemingly plausible. A touch of rom suspense that's easily figured out but still done well enough to read to the end just to see if you are right.
If you like La Nora, you will like this one.

I have been enjoying Nora Robert's stand alone books (though I also adore many series that she has penned). That Robert's has done her research is apparent in this tale of summer wildfire season. After the drought like condidtions of the west coast and northwest last summer, this topic was near and dear to my heart. The mystery of who-dunnit kept me reading and guessing until the very end. A great read.

This story was well-written and full of some rich, entertaining characters. I didn't want the story to end. I wish she'd make a sequel to it involving the main characters... though I know that's not her style. This was one of her best! 5 stars.

Story plots about smoke jumpers and their work fighting forest fires. The heroine, Rowan Tripp, is a smoke jumper, as was her father. The hero, Gulliver Curry, has just transferred into Rowan's team, and is learning the trade. This was not a relaxing read for me. The background setting is too dangerous and not, in my estimation, ideal for a romantic setting. The antagonist was too obvious, and in reality would never have been placed in the same situation again. Though I love most of NR's books, and many may enjoy this read more than I, this one is not one of my keepers.

I really enjoyed learning about the world of Smoke Jumpers in this novel. Her research for the last two books, this one and The Search, have been amazing while not detracting from the romance. As usual she writes a smoking hot, smart, and very manly hero. I think writing great male characters is definitely one of her strengths. I couldn't put this book down and finished it in about a day.

Actually I love Nora Roberts, I didn't care for this book. not sure why but it did not compel me to keep reading. I like books that I can't put down and this one didn't do it for me, I never got past a quarter of the book

I guess I'll be the one who disagrees with the majority here, but I absolutely could not get into this book. The one and a half star rating is solely because the smoke jumping information in the beginning of the story was a little bit interesting. Even that became old after about the second fire of the book. It seems that all the characters do is whine, eat, and fight fires. The romantic element of the book was barely there, and the "threat" Rowan faces is a ridiculous, melodramatic angry female. I found that I could not work up any interest in the heroine at all, and I had to give up on this one about 115 pages in. I skimmed through the rest and didn't see anything all that exciting that I'd be missing. Definitely a DNF for me.

I am a Nora Roberts fan. This book, however, took me about 1/2 through before I started to like it. I almost stopped reading it (which I never do) but am glad I didn't. Second half is much better & I ended up enjoying the latter half of the book.
