Tom Severin may have been a cold one, but his thawing towards Cassandra was a tender and romantic transformation. Kleypas can't be beat when it comes to breathing life into the best self-made heroes in the genre. She also wrote a prologue about Tom's childhood (which was later scrapped from the book) that's available to her newsletter subscribers. Reading that will explain better some of what happens to the young adult Tom. 4 stars.
Cassandra wants to marry for love and has turned down numerous proposals during her first Season. When she meets Tom, each make an impression on the other, but each go their own way. Tom acquires things and doesn't believe in love. His heart is "frozen." However, they are drawn to each other.
When things happen and Cassandra tell the wrong person "no," Tom is there. He proposes and Casandra accepts. Each character has layers and I understood the motivations. Both get to know each other and really talk and share. They love and accept the other, just as they are. Liked this!

After seeing her twin marry the man of her dreams, Cassandra wants nothing more than to marry for love. But the prospects this season are not looking good for her. She has received several offers; but has found no man that interests her. Businessman Tom Severin takes one look at Cassandra and wants her for himself. He quickly offers to marry her, telling her that he will give her anything her heart desires. Her family knows Tom and quickly puts an end to that idea. But Tom is used to getting what he wants...and he wants Cassandra.
Tom was introduced in the first book as a cut-throat businessman. In this book we got to know the real Tom. He is a wealthy Railroad Magnate with an inability to express emotions. He is immediately fascinated with Cassandra; but tells her that he can never love her since it isn't in him. As Cassandra gets to know him better and learns of his past, he discovers there is more to him than he thinks.
This was a truly entertaining story. It is told with a lot of humor and an abundance of heart. The addition of Bazzle, a street urchin who Tom helps to get off of the streets, was an added bonus to the story. My rating: 5 Stars.

This book grabbed my attention right away. It was funny, a great family and better romance.
